I think the issue is there is no one to put their foot on the ball and take a moment no pace up front. nothing on the wings and no one breaking from midfield past the striker. The only striker with something up front is stuck on the wing.
With Butterfield the ball sticks like glue perfect for the position just behind the striker only Gray can hold the ball up out of the strikers its something that needs sorting in the summer.
Our defence has been poor for years, not just since Buttercup has been out. As I keep saying it needs a complete overhaul in the summer.
It doesn't even have to be buttercup. Tonge is more than capable but with the static options in front of him is a dead end option.
Overhaul in the summer? The entire back 4 are new players this season. It's a team game, and we're conceding soft goals as a team
We've had Jay Mac, Sir Bobby, and Foster all with us now for many a year, all pretty regular members of a poor defence. Edwards isn't seen as up to it with the amount of games he's played.
Not played together before though like the others have dozens of times. Given time the back four tonight might be the future.
Only Golbourne not played together, others are just a knock for knock. Different players but same ****. I dont mean they are **** players, just **** defending.
The first thing to say is that I did not go tonight. Neither did I go to Watford, so the following comments are not written as a results of the latest losses. I do not think that the problem is anything to do with Butterfields absence. We were poor at the start of the season when Butterfield played. We improved when Drinkwater arrived and his departure has left a gap. However, even this is not the whole story in my view. Our best period came when we played a 4-4-1-1 formation with either Gray or Davies up front on their own. We have tried 4-3-3 for a number of weeks which has become 4-4-2 from half time. We are not a good team and the manager has got us into a decent position by asking the players to work harder than the opposition. 4-4-1-1 enables more of the players to be involved in that work ethic in both defence and attack because it places more of them closer to the action. I have also argued consistently that Davies and Gray cannot play together up front as they are too similar.
