Is that right? Over £1.5 million, no fee for the Liverpool kid. The next few weeks could be interesting.
I would have thought our ever decreasing wage bill would have covered that? Sure we've knocked a few million of it over the last 12 months, more than covers the missing 1500 ST holders.
my guess is we have abut 400k to spend - the 400k for norwood would have come from the money expected for butterfield.
I didn't think Norwich had come in for him at this point? can't see us gambling on the money coming in and already bidding with it.
The club would have known that we were likely to receive in excess of 400k, I'm sure. I think Norwood was lined up as Butterfield's like for like replacement, i.e. if Butterfield stayed we would have pulled out of the Norwood deal.
Not the impression l got at the time, The Don and Keef both said that they didn't know what was happening with Butters, no-one had made an offer and Butterfield was yet to make a decision, remember Norwich came in at the very last minute. We had signed Mido and bid for Norwood l thought the club had thought these signings may have helped keep Butterfield. The lad from Derby a few weeks after was earmarked as Butterfields replacement. Not that it matters because l'd be surprised if 400k was spent and all the press interviews over the next month or so will going on about our poverty.
After seeing Mido in the flesh for the first time l think we're absolutely desperate for a striker. I would go as far as saying l cant see Mido playing a 90 min league game for us, he's on a 1 year contract and l can see that being terminated by mutual consent by October. When they said he was overweight l thought it was his "overweight" figure like he had at West Ham, but after seeing him. Christ. 2 months at least to get on the heavy side for a footballer and then to get to match sharpness and pace, can't see it happening. He needs to lose more than Andy Fordham.
Yeah I think the decreasing wage bill will have covered that as well. We should have a good 1.5 million in the bank to spend with us only bringing in freebies so far. Even if some is used to pay off some debts we should still have a million pound to still spend.
Who says we have to use that money on transfer fees though? Some decent freebies knocking about and maybe some of that transfer pot could be used against player wages. Would love a Danny Shittu/ Greg Halford type centre half here and we also need a centre forward.
Silva might have been no fee but expect a hefty sum for signing on as we had some strong competition it sounds.
