Not the best team selection and positioning, some below par performances, same player made same mistake leading to a goal two games in a row. I haven't seen too many games this season, but that's the best side I've seen us play. The second goal should have killed us and I was ready for a proper routing. We didn't lie down though, a good bit of subbing and we were seriously back in the game and had them properly rattled for a good long spell. Tommy scored the goal of the game and a calmer head would have seen us come back for a point. We know where the weaknesses are and we do need to make some changes. I think we missed Bobby today, maybe 3 games in a week is too much too soon and I still think C'OG came back a couple of games too soon. I'm pissed off we lost again, I haven't seen us win yet this season - but I'm not going to slag the team off for that. If we'd got the point we'd be bouncing off the walls, yet the performance would have been only one kick better. I'll leave the doom and gloom to the usual light-weights. I've not given up on them, there is plenty there to be positive about.
I sacked Kennedy last season. I wasn't the one giving 4 grand a week for the next 2 years to a player worth absolutely fck all in the transfer market. Wiseman made amends but is now up to his old tricks.
I'm not giving up on them either but January is massive for us, if we come out the other side with no new players we are down.
Good side I agree, but they looked weak centre of defence for me and some teams will have far more of a killer instinct around the box than us.
I didnt think they looked much better than us to be honest, I really cannot see how they have gone on such a run ! I hope that we have seen the last of that system of picking the team . I thought Dawson did OK and he played as well as you can expect of him. He played to 100% of his ability, which is a little below the quality needed, not his fault. Tutu, on the other hand was gash, no more to say. The fullbacks are as poor a pair as I can remember seeing in a Red shirt. Paddy, in our team he looks like *****, but against us he would look like Messi ! Mellis, looked good in parts , looked shocking in others. JOB , see the Dawson theory, COG I feel sorry for him today, I dont think he is lazy/not interested or unfit, I just think he does not like to be up top on his own, he does not play to his best like that. He is frustrating in that he drifts to the left all the time though. Crainie and Ramage were OK, not great but they did OK. Steele, kicking is suspect at times, but he is fantastic stopper, which is his primary job.
They had, especially first haif, pace and movement which we struggled to cope with, cant recall much movement from us, maybe a bit of bowel movement when they came at us.
''I'll leave the doom and gloom to the usual light-weights. I've not given up on them, there is plenty there to be positive about.'' Totally agree - with only three games in charge Wilson has a pretty good idea of players abilities and commitment. The challenge him is to gat the team more confident.
We can't say that every week can we. It was Derby, a side who have struggled the last few seasons with not much change to the squad.
If we don't sign some players in January we will be playing in the pub league next season. The only positives I can see are external to the club and they are that there is a chance that with new players and Danny changing a few things we might just manage to finish as high as forth from bottom. I'm not even sure this is a positive anymore.
Most of that is spot on, Mark. But I disagree with your first sentence. I think Derby's passing was sharper and more incisive, and their movement off the ball was really good. I really do feel that Derby could have scored 5 or 6 today. At the same time, we could have had 3. Hughes just bided his time and picked Paddy's pocket, ie the ball, virtually every time Paddy tried to take someone on. Wiseman and Etuhu were arguing with each other after Derby's first attack, and we just didn't learn our lesson. They were both dreadful. It seemed quite clear to me that O'Grady and Pederson have little understanding of how to play with each other (if I can say that!). That is very worrying.
The first paragraph sums up my feelings precisely, not as bad as most are saying. You particularly have to admire the way we fought back after the 2nd goal.
Yes really. Not much change in that side and the 1 who scored a last min goal in a game we dominated, on a Tuesday night towards the end of last season. Wins give you confidence, when we actually started to show less respect we started to get to them.
