.......... we are relying too much on power, strength and speed - we need a bit of intelligence in the final third. Someone like Adam Hammill would unlock these teams that park the bus. Time again the final pass went astray - we need a player that can put players in on goal. Mowatt maybe has that capability if he played further forward in front of 2 defensive centre midfielders. As for Plymouth - they stood up to the power and strength of our midfield and were slick in attack. They didn’t look like a bottom of the league club.
Don't see much speed with Moore, Thiam and Ade as the strike force. That's what we're lacking up front. Add Cavare on the overlap and we look pedestrian at times.
Decision making and crossing was very very poor last night. Cavare passed there left back 3 times in 1st 15 minutes and could of easily had 2 assists then didn’t try taking him on again. Crossing in general was very poor we were 2nd best to the majority of 2nd balls and people looking to offload the ball straight away when they had room to run into to commit their players.
Pleased to see Hedges back, he did well. I was so disheartened by Cavare's poor crossing last night, frustrating player whose end product belies his obvious ability. We seemed to pick up the pace when Potts came on, his more direct running caused them a few problems. Plus I think Moncur came on too late to have much effect, a player with talented feet. Put these two together again with Mowatt and we might have a midfield that has variety enough to unlock stubborn defences.
Hammills contract with St Mirren is only for three months. Be interesting to monitor his progress and take it from there. Like a lot of others, despite his age, I honestly think he could still do a good job in League One. However, if he still wanted a two year contract, that would be a major sticking point.
