Why not try the obvious one? The one that all players understand. Why not stick with that for 5 games?
When managers are under pressure they stop seeing the obvious things. The real damage was done in the summer with the scattergun recruitment policy, we need to sign specific players for specific positions to fit into a specific formation, not that complicated really.
"We need a shape and a system" er, thats your job Lee. At least it was today. Not sure about tomorrow.
The one he refuses to try, because he has to "protect his little angels" in midfield. 4-4-2 Scowen & Pearson in the middle with 2 wide players. 2 up front. A left back and a right back Pick 2 central defenders not 3 because they just get in each others way. Pick like for like subs. Stop p#ssing about with players deeper, players protecting other players. Tell you what if we'd played 4-4-2 all season, I guarantee we'd have more points on the board. To be honest, if we'd had no manager, and the players just rocked up and decided the team themselves, we'd have more points on the board.
I won't think we have the players to play with wing backs. You need very versatile and pacey players, who can be up & down the touchline, can defend & can play in quality crosses. Wabara's deliveries were almost comical last night, Smith has a nosebleed when he gets to the hallway line & Harris isn't a defender. The 3 centre halves don't seem to know who is going for the ball & who is taking the man. A flat back four seems the basis of a solid defence to me & we were looking better in defence playing that way. We don't get enough men in the opponent's box, so we rarely pose a threat & invite pressure back on to us. I don't see any point changing things, at least till the transfer window. We are pretty much stuck with these players. Looks like LJ hasn't that much influence on transfers anyway. If Winnall had put that easy chance away in the first couple of minutes we may have been looking at a different outcome last night, but as the few chances we had went begging it looked inevitable we'd concede. As soon as they got their goals they shut up shop, like the organised outfit they are & we could have played till Christmas & not scored. I agree, keep it simple on Saturday, whether it is one or two up front. We certainly need to be getting more players in the box. Let's hope for a bit of luck. A league win & some confidence will start to come back in the players.
