If the club appoints Mellon then we are doomed. Its obvious that Wilson is wanted so get him now instead of wasting time to see if the cheap option of Mellon can change things. We need to be out of the bottom 3 before xmas.....Wilson, Warnock, Holloway will do.
yes and the outcome was fantastic last season while they were battling.. im maybe one of few who believe any new face would have got a similar reaction last season as the players seemed to use hill sacking as a point to prove and got bit between ther teeth the true colors were shown this year.. and mellon is VERY MUCH a part of that NOBODY is happy at our merrygo round management posistion BUT to many times the cheap or easy option has been chosen therfore the risk of that doubles. i dont see mellon as any different... flicker wasnt first choice and i dont think mellon would be
But so was Flicker with Hill and someone MAY have got the same reaction that we don`t and won`t ever know. Someone has to take the reins whilst a manager is sought and Melon seems the right choice and should have the chance to apply for the job and state his case. Very few managers start at the top.
Since I started watching Barnsley we've had 20 different managers. Four of those produced truly great teams: Clarke, Hunter, Wilson and Bassett. Most of us also have a soft spot for Andy Ritchie, who got us promoted, but we weren't all that. Of the rest, some were better than others, but the general feeling is 'meh'. Out of the four that did really well, 3 of them had no experience of management at all before taking us on, yet they all got Barnsley promoted and had us playing the best football most of us have ever seen. Whenever we're looking for a new manager the majority claim we need someone with experience, but in the last 40+ years it's been those with very little experience who have done the best for our club. Younger men with fire in their bellies, rough around the edges but full of optimism and desperate to do well. Not the old hands who are worn down, burnt out and cynical about a cut throat business where the average job lasts about a year and you're abused from all sides if you don't win at least half of your first ten games.
and in fairness it was right to an extent. After the intial honeymoon period we've failed badly.Look at the run of results from the end of feb onwards, its not very good, yes we stayed up,but as this season has proved that is all in the past. I agree entirely that we need some experience this time round,as jay points out,we've struggled since basset left and he was the last one with owt like the experience needed at this level.
But I think we do need Mellon He will do for me. I think he was the catalyst last year and I think he as been ignored this year. Why do you think that recent offers for him were rejected? He appears to be well liked inside Oakwell and they obviously don't appear to see him as part of the problem. Having made my comittment, I will now fall on my sword! By the way, how do you know he's the cheap option and who sez Wilson is wanted?
Re: But I think we do need Mellon Erm i think the "cheap option" idea would come from the fact hes already on the clubs payroll..... such as wilson isnt.... and if mellon was catalyst last year you are kidding yourself to think flicker has suddenly stopped listening to him this season our failing this year rest on all the staff and players.... mellons one of them
I ain`t putting Mellon forward for the job, just not ruling him out. After the last 6 seasons of struggle I would like us to see someone with a bit more experience, however, I think we need someone to take us to the end of the season short term because if relegation happens then the one in charge at the death will be sacked.
im hoping the board with maurice and mansford involved now know what there doing and have a great manager lined up.
Re: But I think we do need Mellon We will see. If the style and performances don't improve over the next few weeks I will admit I was wrong but I think they will. As for the cheap option, I doubt if any fan knows what he will be paid if he gets it and regarding Flicker not listening, we will have to wait and see. I think that there is enough in that squad to have us in a healthier position and the reason for our failing is the application of style/system and a lack of attacking mindset. This is down to management in the main. If the style and mindset continue then we will all know he was part of the problem. If it changes then I will rest my case.
We don't have the money for Holloway & Warnock and they wouldn't come anyway, besides Holloway's spending time away from football.
