Most teams just treat this cup as a friendly until the latter stages. In my opinion it either needs drastic changes or scrapping altogether. 'Eight Championship teams dumped out of Carabao Cup' http://www.skysports.com/share/12936196
This has been mentioned and discussed on another thread as well tonight. Yeah they could scrap the Lg cup altogether, for all the disrespect that teams show it these days.
I don't think it's disrespect anymore mate, I just think it's pressure. As someone else mentioning on another thread, we have illness, injury and suspensions. Had Cole & Kitching got injured, there'd be hell on with the fans for one, but it seriously impacts the manager then because he's without them for more important business in the league. Look how quick clubs are to sack managers. I think the only way to improve it is to increase the prize money. I'd love for the FA to take out a champions league spot from the premier league and give it straight to the FA cup winners because then that would really change things. Just won't happen
This cup and the fa cup were treated with respect. Until the premier clubs saw the £notes from the European competitions and the value of staying in the premier, due to the obscene amounts now got through tv rights and sponsorship. Mega rich owners, who dont give a toss about competitions such as the league and fa cups. The competitions have been devalued and the fans have sadly become blasè also. Not in the prem only, as the BBS quite clearly shows. Football is fekked on so many levels. Due to the greed league. I want us to win every game and rightly so imo. Clubs treated both competitions with respect pre premier league and a little while after. Before the stench of money took over. All clubs wanting to win the competitions as they were prestigious. And fielded strong teams. Take Anfield 1982. We nearly overcame possibly their strongest side. Not one full of young uns. Man utd started the rot and the rest followed. Moaning about amount of games, then travelling all over the world, entering meaningless competitions. Bizzare fear of injuries didn't exist either. The fans deserve better. The competitions deserve better. Scrap em if they aren't taken seriously. We have a cup called the efl trophy if we want to play young uns that's the place. As not all teams compete but give a little hope of reaching a final at Wembley and a day out. Sadly the only issue. Those that get you there, get dumped after the early stages.
This cup,Micky Mouse trophy and fa cup are used for given young uns ago unless we have excess injuries and suspensions. The way that's going with bookings we're going to need em more then we think. Getting daft now all these bookings and it's every game ( iam sad i had a look).
Think the play offs had a big impact with their introduction. Can remember many seasons when we thought our season was over after gettin knocked out of the FA cup in the 3rd round in Jan but the play offs gave you more hope and if you were in and around them, a victory in the league felt more 'meaningful' than a 3rd or 4th round cup game.
I've still not even looked at the result, thats how much I care. The League cup is up with the Sherpa Van trophy for me.
Would you not go if we reached the final of the league cup. ?. Genuine question. That's the trouble. both cups are non events till the quarter finals then everyone clamouring for a win. And taking em seriously. Cos there is a demand for tickets over and above our normal attendance figures.
Spurs would bite your hands off for a League Cup victory. It's a shame Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd and Liverpool take it so seriously. Best chance you have against a big boy is the early rounds.
I don’t get all this “non-event” attitude. I care about every fixture that my team are involved in, as do many others I’m sure. It doesn’t matter who pulls on that red shirt. It’s Barnsley playing, so I’m interested, and losing to any other team hurts.
I'd just like Clubs to be honest about their intentions before tickets go on sale. If a Club's attitude is "we don't care about winning this game/trophy - we're going to play a second team." Just let me know before I buy a ticket and travel 300 miles to watch the team. Of course in those circumstances - I won't go! Just a bit of honesty from Clubs/Coaches wouldn't go aims.
Of course I would. However the chances of us getting to the final are up there with Lee Anderson saying something thats not divisive. The early rounds of every cup competition these days is absolutely bobbins. Money has spoiled the entire process of cup competitions. That’s why crowds are dogger
Good for you squire. Just because I couldn’t care less about a comp, that most clubs don’t care about either, isn’t a slight on your enjoyment or fanaticism.
Collins did say it would be a younger team & a 98th minute equaliser to take it to pens would suggest they did want a win. Try telling the lads who got a chance (debut for some) it's a meaningless game. I enjoyed the game apart from the result & look forward to seeing these fringe players progress this season.
Can you blame him really? He's only been here two minutes and has had next to no time to see the players in competetive action, what with cancelling some pre-season friendlies. If it was his decision to have a look at some of the fringe players, then fair play to him. If he was told to do it by the board then so be it. I believe this guy's got his head screwed on and will do what he thinks best for the Club and the Fans.
Got to the semi of the fa cup though Terry. And look at the semi finalists though mate Us Cardiff pompey and west brom. So it's more than possible. Only one from the premier.
