So I keep hearing, at the game, in the pub, on here. I'm not so sure, I'm sure Sunderland thought the same about the championship. This team isn't even close to the one that went up. The sides at the bottom of the championship this season have been a lot worse than previous seasons so may struggle next year. Now we might do well if we went down but it's not something I'm confident of. Would massively come down to recruitment again. Especially if we are to continue with the current formation as we will need even more players to fit this system. Yes some of our players have league one experience but a lot have come from a lower level than that so we just don't know.
Rotherham were awful last and are doing well this year ... if we do go down we will need to rebuild in the summer, there's no doubt about that
I think this squad of players is decent, theirs some real quality in there in my opinion, I think our troubles are down to distinct lack of belief, leadership, and togetherness. If this squad had the luxury of finding their feet at a lower level first I think they’d finish in the top half of the championship, I keep hearing how good that 2016 promotion side were, but in all honesty I think they were also one of the worst sides we’ve had, rock bottom of league one was a all time low for me in the time I’ve been watching BFC. We’re playing the same now as we was then not getting battered, looking decent at times, but just having no self belief.
No guarantees either way, but all 3 relegated teams are having a good go at coming back up at the first attempt. Wigan and Blackburn probably going to take the two automatic places and Rotherham looking at play offs.
We’d be top 6 in league one. We’ve picked up most of our points against teams in the bottom 6. 6 off Sunderland & Birmingham, 3 off Burton etc. Bradshaw, Isgrove, Hammill, Moore, Moncur, McCarthy, Davies all proven performers in league one. And I’m pretty sure Cavare, Lindsay, Pinnock, Jackson, Fryers, Pinillos, Hedges, Thiam & Mallan can perform at that level. Regardless of what league we’re in the main priorities for me are two central midfielders, a keeper & a main striker to replace McBurnie.
Third division football doesn’t appeal to me and would be a massive backward step . Anyone who wants us to go down to “ start again” want their heads looking at .
I quite enjoyed winning at Wembley twice and winning in general. I've not been over keen on loosing all the time. Just a different perspective.
For financial reasons alone, relegation has to be avoided at all costs. The new owners and head coach then have a summer recruitment and pre-season in which to get their collective act together. Maybe then we can see some improvement on the pitch and a push for solid mid-table Championship status. Going down and hoping to come back stronger is a poor plan B from where I'm sitting, although after so long without a win I can see the attraction.
I don’t want to go back down but I don’t fear it like last time. We had one season of rebuilding & then had the second best season of my lifetime.
No, but there are loads making the assumption that we will be good at that level - losing is a hard habit to shake off, not to mention what would be required to meet SCMP.
Its not the end of the world but I dont share the view that many seem to have that playoffs are almost guaranteed. Many sides have gone down thinking that and had a nasty shock. We've hardly bounced straight back the last twice we went down and look at Portsmouth Coventry Charlton for example. Had we kept Heckingbotton I would have been fairly optimistic but nothing in Morais gives me any confidence he has the first idea how to either fight a relegation battle or motivate a relegated team to bounce back. and he hasnt convinced me he understands the game at this level too much either I am resigned to the likelyhood we will go down and the prospect doesn't fill me with much in the way of positives but I will still be there - who knows we might even win a home game and score more than one goal before Xmas if we do.
I've got an open mind. Nothings guaranteed but last time we really did come back up stronger and with real momentum, and on the back of that our gates are the highest they've been for 16years. Unfortunately the club wasn't up to the challenge of building on that and here we are again. Would be interesting to see how the new guys deal with it if we should find ourselves there again.
Re Coventry and Portsmouth. They've had horrific off the field problems to hinder them, as have Blackpool. Dunno about Charlton but I don't think everything's great there either.
I was talking about if we were in the same situation as last January. Would they let it happen again?
Difficult one. If a player wants out they want out. The fix is perhaps secure better players on longer contracts earlier to ensure maximum value extraction but also perhaps increase the wage budget so that not every player is itching to leave - see Watkins and Scowen for example. I don't expect or anticipate paying £18-35k a week! The anger from last Jan comes from the fatalism of it all and the failure to do anyting aboyt it to maximise value - not to mention then not bothering/forcing out the likes of Scowen and Roberts. I'd also like to think that we'd not renege on a deal for a player (Morsy) as the effect of losing him is under-stated
All retainable for me. Another thing that I'd totally forgotten until someone posted the highlisghts from the home leg against Walsall was that we'd supposedly fended off interest from Leeds for Winnall in Jan 16 - surely if this was real he'd have pushed for the move? What changed in a year? Did he fathom that staying up was the height of our abmitions or was he just a lovely person?
