After the last time we had Smith I'd say no but I would defo have taken the CB for sure. Smith in recent seasons for Rotherham has been really good though and he's 100% better than Oulare, Cole, Vic etc so both would have improved us. Wouldn't sign either on 15k a week though like they reportedly have.
Let's be honest, even with them they were probably down anyway. Happens every time. They go up and then come straight back down. They then get promoted straight away again and down again. It will repeat like that for eternity it seems.
Wednesday have no excuses this season and for me are big favourites for promotion looking at the players they’ve signed although that will also bring its own pressure especially from their own fans.
The squad is full or players age 28 and over. In 2 years they will need to sign another boat loads of players. If its true smith is on 14 k per week. Whoever made that decision need upper cutting
Gotta be favourites for title I'd have said which is very annoying. They have kept their better players from last season and added some good ones in annoyingly. They are also rumoured to be getting Wilks who again was crap for us but he always does well in L1.
Yes, if you’ve watched him over the last few years, he’s been the driving force of the Rotherham team. He is great at that level. He’d walk into our squad.
If Wednesday are paying him 14k per week then they deserve to go bust although personally i can’t see it. Smiths an effective Div one striker but wouldn’t do anything in the championship.
Rotherham fan mate of mine. who on occasion visits this board.(Hey up Pete if you're looking in lol) reckons Smith can't cut it in the championship. Was a failure last time and they need someone better. ( that was a few weeks ago when we met up. )
They are gambling again. They never make any money from player sales. Albeit alot of free transfers but wages they pay. They have been signing players left right centre in the last few years. I certainly wouldnt swap our squad for theirs. A squad needs certain balance. A few tweeks to our squad and im comfortable.
At the moment with the squad as it is no. We need a LWB given styles won't be here next season and we need a decent striker to replace Cauley. To go up you need goal scorers. Morris is great but more than likely won't be fit for every game and isn't a proven goal scorer as such but he's been brilliant for us.
They are and in terms of resale value, you are right ours is much better and we do it a more organic way without throwing tonnes at wages. But with that being said, we could do with a few older heads of the calibre of the ones they have. As much as it pains me to say, but the likes of Bannan, Ihiekwe, Vaulks etc. Are very good for this level and will most likely see them promoted come May. I do prefer our approach though of getting younger players with room to grow.
I still think it smells trouble giving the age of their squad. They aint gonna be aiming to survive in the championship if they do go up. They will need to throw more cash to replace the aging players. With no income. Other teams who spend money and pay high wages seem to have 2 or 3 players who will make some money back from resale. They dont. I remember when they had neil mellor at this level and nearly got relegated. Personally i think they are good at getting experienced known players but theirs no strategy.
