  2. Well if you put a football ground somewhere stupid....

Gloucester City used to play in a nice safe place, near to the city centre, but on land ripe for development. Sure enough when the house builders came along they sold up, took the Westbury homes money and accepted a brand new ground as part of the deal but on the other side of town.
Everyone said at the time (chinny) , with that kind of expression, dodgy place for a football ground. Meadow Park is:
    a. built next to a huge landfill site
    b. right next to the main flow of the River Severn and it's tributaries
    c. literally on an "island" - one narrow road in, one narrow road out
Up to now they have more or less got away with it - this is the first really serious flooding in my memory. The poor access was very nearly a serious problem when those nice boys from Cardiff visited a few years ago for an FA Cup replay and the ground location caused the inevitable tensions.
Seeing these pictures though is amazing - water right up to the cross bar. Imagine that at Oakwell!!!! (titanic)
