Hopefully we can wield the axe. Let's hope Danny's old skill to assemble a mix of experienced pro's, rough diamonds from Europe and the best of our youth is still intact - even though he'll have even less money to work with this time around. This squad needs to go, with the exception of Steele, Cranie, Mellis, Cywka, RNL and Digby. Scrap all the rest. That's it. Sorry!
We wont see the majority of the gash leave until there contracts run out because unless we give them free transfers who the hell is going to buy them ?
The problem is that because they're both very poor managers they're back where they belong in league two so as much as they might want some of their gash special human beings back they simply won't be able to afford to pay them what they are stealing off us.
The only way to terminate a players (or managers) contract is to pay it up (or reach a mutually acceptable compromise). If we are going to have to pay them anyway then they might as well play for the U21s or do some other job around the club (do we need any new match-day stewards?).
Yet when a better offer comes in from another Club, their agent starts acting up and the player refuses to play, unless they're allowed to leave....all while still on full pay I may add - cos that's 'in their contract'
Much as a derranged fan going postal at a training session might help long term, it could be a bit of a problem until we can get replacements in. Although perhaps we could have some compassionate leave from the FA allowing us to delay the next few games and PL clubs might look more kindly on us with loan players...
Could it be the case that a few of the players believe that their days at Oakwell are numbered and are simply going through the motions? That's what it seemed like yesterday. Wilson has said in his interviews that changes are needed and it doesn't take a genius to realise that it's the full backs and pretty much the entire midfield and, yet again, those were the areas we were severely lacking in yesterday. Must also say that from where I sit, quite close to the pitch in the East Lower, Wiseman and Kennedy have received almost not stop abuse for the last few games which surely can't be doing them any good. Like the second half of last season, we have absolutely nothing to lose now, there must surely be a collection of midfielders and full backs at other clubs who aren't breaking into their current teams who could do a much better job for us but I suppose it will depend on whether we can move a few players on.
That seems totally alien to me. I would have thought they'd be busting a gut. Not just to impress the new guy, but to keep their Championship futures alive. You may be right though, who knows. I'm very worried about our ability to turn this round though. Especially if we don't bring some new players in, in Jan.
I'd add Bobby and Lewin to your list (dunno why they aren't playing) and JOB too. But apart from that I agree.
I genuinely think we would fair better if we played the likes of Digby, Rose, RNL and whichever other young lads we've got. We'd lose some games, get hammered in others, but we might win a few too. We're losing games anyway, we're getting hammered anyway and we've won just 3 matches all season. We've scored just 6 goals in the last 11 games, failing to score in 6 of those games. I don't see the point in continuing to select players who Danny would release at the drop of a hat if he could. Players that have no future at this football club as they certainly won't be having their contracts renewed. Send all the loan players back. Luke Steele, Bobby Hassell, Martin Cranie, Jacob Mellis and Chris O'Grady to form the nucleus of the team. Nyatanga too if he can get fully fit. Put McCourt, Cwyka and Scotland on the bench to act as impact subs. Maybe Jennings too. If they up their work rate, get them in the team. Fill the rest of the places with kids and anyone Danny can sign in the January transfer window. Unfortunately, we can't shoot the rest of them, but we can do something. Stick them in the reserves, they don't have anything to do with the first team, they're all available for transfer and are free to leave if they so wish. We might not do any better, personally I think we will, but we'll certainly not do any worse and we'll be putting together a team capable of moving forward in the long run. The kids will be training and playing with the football players, not the toilers, which should accelerate their development. It can't hurt.
That has got to be the way forward. We are 5 points adrift (although with a better gd than Donny). Start playing the young ones now and give them a chance.
Still 2 of the 92 managers though and not one of those scratching around waiting or applying for every post that comes up. Championship too big a step for em at this moment in time. Be nice to find out where Danny will be shopping this January.
No O'Grady? Seriously? I don't see how getting shut of the majority of the squad will help us whatsoever. We don't have the funds to bring in an entire new squad and neither do we have the league position to attract any players who don't want to play below Championship level. Unless you'd rather we bring in 10 league 2/conference players I can't see how your 'solution' is going to help in the slightest. We can't afford the wages of experienced pros and you can't build a team with rough diamonds or foreign players who have never played the English game.
