Comes in with little recent first team action behind as the reserve keeper for a lower league side and helps us win two from two. Yes he wasn't perfect but he played two tough teams for a team that needs to pick up points. Good luck to the lad and I hope Southampton give him his chance (Y) (Y) (Y)
Fair play to the lad, the save at the end stopped us losing a game we've gone and won. He's done us a favour when it seems we had very few options. But on the evidence of these two games, he'll be lucky if he ever gets a game for Saints. he can't catch, his positioning is woeful and both Ipswich and West Brom should have tested him a great deal more than they did.
Thats abit harsh. He's only young, got years ahead of him. League one is his level but he's come in and done well for us. Pulled off some top class saves.
To be honest I didn't realise he was a young 'un, so maybe he'll improve, but Mannone looked safe as houses compared to this lad. He made a good save on Tuesday when he tipped over, and the block with his legs today saved us (but I think more luck than design there). As I said, fair play, he's done a job and I thank him for it, but I wouldn't like to see him week in week out, and would say the same if we were in league one, where Southampton are...
I was having kittens every time the ball went near him I actually predicted the Ipswich goal as they lined up the free kick He needs to either learn to catch or push the ball away not back into the middle of the danger area At times his positional sense was all wrong - fortunately Ipswich were even worse in front of goal It made me remember how spoiled we have been for keepers for the last few seasons. Dont get me wrong he may well get better with some experience but he was at fault for their goal. Did make a great save at the end though I definitely will feel happier with Steele (or Preece) back in for our next match
RE: I was having kittens every time the ball went near him The free kick was travelling too much for a clean catch, but as you say he should at least have pushed the ball behind or over for a corner. I think he's done ok though in tough circumstances - 70% positive 30% negative for me. Good luck to him in the future.
He has a bloody good kick on him, thought Ipswich strikers may have learnt He likes to drop the ball to kick it and not out of his hands, I thought someone would have stood infront of him everytime he had ball in his hands instead of going back
