    Shame it's taken so long

Barry has been consistent for many years and should have far more caps than he has. Has suffered from the preference England managers seem to have for players employed by the 'top' clubs.

Personally I don't think we have a midfield problem, it's just that the managers have been picking players on reputation rather than ability

Ok then , lets see if I get this right

When England lose its because the manager is ****, when England win its because the opposition is poor.

Give the man a break, he made a couple of decisions for todays match that had everyone gagging for them to go wrong.
Emile Heskey, up front and Gareth Barry in central midfield aswell as Robinson in goals. He worked out how to beat Isreal and went with a plan to do so, Heskey was excellent today, never thought I would say that about him, Barry was immense and Robinson did everything he needed to do. Isreal have got an excellent record over the last couple of years, OK they are not the best in attack , but they are VERY good defencively, check their record.Today England absolutely hammered them, no 2 ways about it.

A BIG WELL DONE to MacClaren and his team for a great result. (Y) (Y) (Y) (Y) (clap) (clap) (clap) (clap)

You can only beat what is in front of you

and England did that job yesterday very well.Full credit to both players and manager for doing that, and the decisions he took clearly worked in the context of this game. You're right - Israel to have a good record, which is why it was all the more surprising to discover that they looked like a pub team in Sunday league that have never met each other before in their lives. Andorra gave us a tougher test than Israel!

Just calling it as I see it - not a slight on the England side to say the opposition are rubbish, but that's exactly what they were, so I'm not gonna get carried away with the result and/or performance. Another good performance against Russia will go a long way towards restoring (or perhaps just 'storing') some much needed confidence in the national side.

    Funny thing about football...

when you play a game like the Israel one with your strongest eleven, the opposition have a better chance of predicting how you're going to play and close you down all over the pitch. Put out a team with two or three enforced changes with seemingly poorer players and the opposition can't prepare as well. Now McLaren's problem for WSednesday will be Russia having worked out how to close down Wright-Phillips and to blunt the target role of Heskey.

For the record - I thought SWP was sublime in the Germany game and that he continued that form right into this game - I just wish he was given even more of the ball, because I could the left back zipping off with a red card behind him for one more rash challenge. Heskey, for me, was always going to work well. People need to see him as target man, who excels at linking play between the forward line and breaking midfielders. If you judge him on goal threat alone, he will rarely be a world-beater. The good thing is that England play best with players, even Rooney, breaking from deeper positions and this means a play like Heskey can bring them in where their strengths are.

Even more impressive that we won so well was that I thought Gerrard was un-par for him - not surprising in that we knew he wasn't 100%. Having said all that - Russia will be a much sterner test - I can see it being 1-1.

Heskey got an amazing response to been subbed

I was one of 75,000 people standing clapping him off yesterday, had a blinder.

As did SWP, Barry, Gerrard and Richards.

Even Ashley Cole was back to his usual attacking self.

Oh and what a goal by Owen

Emile Heskey had a very good game...............................

against a very poor defence, but the lad is very annoying in the fact he just does'nt score enough (Paul Hayes syndrome), Emile heskey would be found wanting if we got to the finals, against better opposition he would go missing.
