Kept positive after Saturday and it rubbed off. The Hungarians attitude lifted the other players and the crowd and Nayatanga was top drawer.

Only time will tell if he's the right man but can't fault Davey's motivation, team selection and tactics tonight.

    Agree.

I've not criticised his appointment too much on here, but privately I have my reservations. Not sure why, because I don't know Simon Davey, have never met him, don't know what his methods are etc.

Hopefully, he'll prove that I know the square root of **** all about football, footballers, and football management.

He definitely had them playing with commitment and energy against Hull. If we continue to play like that, with maximum effort, and end up getting relegated then fair enough. Lack of quality I can accept, but lack of application is a different matter. Good lad, Davey.

There certainly seem to be some spirit and fight in the team tonight. Lets hope we can carry that forward to next Monday and lets hope Davey can stick with that team selection. (Please, please not Mattis). Id still like to see Davey swap Howie and McCann round positionally but McCann did do well tonight.

I've not criticised Davey but I have Shepherd for employing the cheap option.

However, if Davey keeps us up I'll give Shep a big sloppy kiss at the end of the season.

Howard will thrive on the left

The problem is he has been our best central midfield option to date.

It does not follow that he is more effective in that position if you have a squad and a decision to make.

agreed and I think Togwell and McCann could flourish as a pairing.

    That's a tough one.

McCann played out wide a couple of times when he first came and looked God-awful.

Steady (very!) improvement since we moved him to the middle but looks ten times the player when with Togwell - I suppose it helps not having to do the work of 2 men when you-know-who plays. Best game in the shirt tonight but Howard still looks a better bet in the middle.

So do you push Howard wide to accommodate McCann or push McCann wide to play Howard in his best position? From what I've seen of McCann as a wide man I'd go with him in the middle and Howard wide. To play Howard in the middle for me, would mean starting Reid wide left and I kinda like him as a sub forward to terrorise tired defenders for the last 15 minutes.

God I'm glad I'm not a football manager sometimes. Decisions, decisions...

Tend to agree. We lose some creativity through the middle when Howard's not there but he's more mobile than McCann and can go past a full back whereas McCann is a bit better defensively - wins more headers and is a bit stronger in the tackle.

Howard on left and McCann in middle-as they are there is nothing to stop Davey telling them to swap positions during the game for spells during the game with a quick instruction?
