    Well done to the designers.

Apparently there will be more than enough room, and the overall design/concept of the new interchange will be fantastic compared to the one that we had.

Cannot please all of the people all of the time eh?

Let's face facts, it'll be a damn sight better than it was.

Maybe one day, people will look back on what's starting to happen in and around Barnsley and say that maybe, just maybe, they might have had a point!

    OOB.

I agree, it has to be better likewise with the market project

but having seen the drawings, i do wonder if we are making the same mistakes that were made in the 70's

    Disagree........

.........but then no doubt so did people in the 70's.

The plans for the market complex will mean the market and it's surrounding area will be far better than what we have now. Yes, they may not be better than what might be offered in 30 years time, but it means we get 30 years out of it.

Barnsley is changing and I think it is changing for the good. We have to move forward........

    OOB.

    I am not convinced

Many of the most beautiful town and city centres in the land consist largely of buildings of some considerable vintage.  Even parts of the larger centres, such as Leeds and Newcastle have significant architectural heritage and character.  Most of that is gone in Barnsley, replaced with the very buildings we want to raze down today (and indeed have for over 10 years).  The original buildings cannot be replaced but I do think a more classical style to the remodelling would stop us making the same mistakes again.  I fear what is viewed as contemporary style of today, is merely the carbuncle of tomorrow and rebuilding our town on architectural whim is building towards the dump of the future.

This is costing millions and it would be a dire pity to see a rebuilt Barnsley look just as dated as it does now, within my lifetime.  I think we need to be looking at more than the 30-year term.  We should be building a town to be proud of, one with lasting character.

The missus is from Basingstoke .  Even they have done a creditable job of a rebuilding, from a centre as bad as the current Barnsley.  We could do worse than look there for inspiration.

I travel by train daily and have seen them build that bridge. I don't see how the road can be load and it has occured to me that I'm not sure if it's tall enough for double deckers.

    Well said

The plans that I've seen for the bus station are to make one that looks really modern - the problem with that is really modern now probably means extremely dated in 30 years time. It's the problem we have now with what they are pulling down.

They need to build in a more classic style.

    There are no end of

buildings that were critisized for being too futuristic at concept but years on are still icons . Sydney opera house, how old is that ?? still looks great.........

Bring on the single deckers. More jobs for drivers, double the number of buses per route. Brilliant. Who thought this one up?
