50 up for England. Now if you want to be proved truly world class go get some when it matters at a major championship.
Flat track bully.....never done owt in tournies apart from get sent off the daft granny shagger. Conor Wilkinson would get more!!!
I like thereev but shurrup talking crap brilliant stuff Rooney Sent from my Hudl HT7S3 using Tapatalk
I've seen people comparing Rooney to Charlton & Lineker this week but he should really be compared to people who've played in the same era against similar opposition, like Robbie Keane who's scored about 67 in a we maker team. So Keane > Rooney
Remarkable that, I had no idea Keane's record was that good. However, it does fall into the 'misleading statistics' category for me. As good a pro as Keane has been I think even Rooney's biggest detractors would admit Rooney is the better player if his all round game is taken into account. The same applies when you consider Rooney's international goal ratio is on a par with Aguero, Ibrahimovic and Messi. I think all three are streets ahead of him in terms of ability. There's probably too many variables to statistically stake a case of one player against another, particularly with internationals. Quality of opposition, position played in, quality of team mates etc etc and I don't give much credibility to the 'flat track bully' and 'all penalties' red herrings. So as always with footy, it comes down to opinions. In mine, I think Rooney is one of the greatest strikers England have ever had. A tad behind Shearer and Lineker for me but not by a lot and nothing a good tournament wouldn't fix. He's not the superstar we hoped he'd be when smashing them in from 30 yards but has developed into a very reliable, quality pro. I suspect every single England manager and all the Man U managers are daft. I think the key lies in him going into the next tournament not only fit but with games under his belt. If carrying or knock or just back from injury, he's not worth bringing as demonstrated in previous tournaments.
Robbie Keane is 6 years older than Rooney and has played almost 40 games more. Still...17 goals in his next 40 games? Probably not.
I'm no Man U! No ulterior motive. But good luck to the lad and well done n congratulations on his achievement. I'll leave it at that. This topic could go on for months. I'd prefer to congratulate him on tonite.
ok yes well done to Wayne whether you like him (or his despicable manure team) or not!! hes achieved a massive record here which will probably never ever be beaten, so yes he should be proud of it.
Only kidding about Keane been better than Rooney. Although I doubt Rooney will catch him because they'll probably end their international careers around the same time with the young strikers England have. The record just doesn't mean all that as far as I'm concerned. I can understand why he's proud & fair play to him but the vast majority of teams you play are championship standard at best. Look at our group, only Switzerland are any good but even then there's only Lichtsteiner, Rodriguez & Shaqiri who are quality players, the rest would struggle to get an England cap. When talking about quality players & records I'd much rather go by tournament records like World Cup, Euro's, Champions League etc.
Agree. I don't think the record means anything at all and isn't anything for anyone (other than Wayne) to be excited or proud about.there is far too much emphasis on goals and who scores them in football as if that is the only thing that counts. Well it isn't and wayne Rooney's all round game is woeful. I think is inclusion over the last few years has done more harm than good to the national team. And don't get me started on friendlies counting as goals. Oddjob scored 4 for us in his first season but let's use the England system. Odejayi actually scored 8 for us that season which suddenly makes him look like a much better striker.
Ratio would suggest that. But I'm not sure he'll keep that ratio up being honest unfortunately. I hope I'm wrong though
Not sure how anyone can come to this conclusion considering the number of assists he's made for club and country over the years. In fact I would argue he's not a natural goalscorer but his workrate, passing and ability to play in various positions makes him the player he his. I think Rooney has often received criticism due to the fact that he's never quite lived up to the hype which surrounded him when he first came on the scene. Nevertheless, he's still had a fantastic career and should be congratulated on his latest achievement.
Wayne Rooneys been extremely fortunate in that for some bizarre reason, every England manager has thought he was/is our best player and the side is built, most of the time, to suit him. This was one of the major reason such a talented side as the 'golden generation' failed. Then last summer when Hodgson had been left with virtually no choice by Sturridge after his form, Rooney still managed to cling on to a place in the side at the expense of a natural left winger. Good achievement, but he's been given every opportunity to do it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He's definitely been fortunate that there's been a massive lack of quality English strikers since Owen. Some of the players who've had plenty of caps in that time, Heskey, Crouch, Defoe & Bent says it all
