Keith Hill . Not every bodies cup of tea but pleased for him . Hope we mirror the dale fans tomorrow .
Bad for Oldham. Longest serving league one club before today. Not easy to attract young fans to watch them when they can see two of the most successful clubs in country a few miles away.
Well done especially to the lad Thompson who scored the winner, had and beaten cancer twice at age 29.
I agree Oldham decent club and like you say hard for them to draw the fans now with united and city down the road. Always had a decent away support hopefully get back asap
I wanted both of them to stay up but obviously recent results meant that was impossible. I've enjoyed going to their grounds in the last few years. That said, if we go down I'll enjoy the chippy outside the away end at Rochdale more than I would the barren lands around Boundary Park.
They could easily drop another league now. If they did a Stockport it wouldn't be a shock. Only just stayed up for years and now going to struggle more than ever to get fans to turn up. Never forget when we went there and took more away fans than were in the whole ground the following Tuesday when they played MK Dons. Hopefully the relegation turns to a positive in that they can rebuild and if they get promoted, they can push on.
I was thinking that it must be the first time Rochdale have been in a higher division than Oldham, but it isn't. When Rochdale were promoted for the first time in 1968/69, they replaced Oldham in the 3rd tier. Oldham came back up in 1970/71, so Rochdale had two seasons when they were higher than them.
There was a time when they were our bogey team, had a spell in the top flight and had some really decent players. I was there when they beat us 2-0 in front of around 20k on their way to promotion. They're a shadow of what they were back then, and we compare well to them and quite a few other clubs that had their day in the sun.
We have both had our day in the sun but what is worse for them is they have two of the biggest team's in Europe a stone's throw away. We are surrounded by teams who are so massive they keep telling us they are.
