Bridge: Judicial review of decision that card game is not a sport A judicial review will begin later of a sporting body's decision not to class the card game bridge as a sport. The English Bridge Union is challenging Sport England, which argues bridge is no more of a sporting activity than "sitting at home, reading a book". The Royal Courts of Justice will not be asked to decide whether bridge is a sport, only if it was reasonable for Sport England to have ruled it was not. Reclassifying bridge would increase opportunities to play, the union says. 'Mind sports' The English Bridge Union (EBU) was granted permission in April to seek a judicial review. Granting permission, Judge Mr Justice Mostyn, who plays bridge, said: "You are doing more physical activity playing bridge, with all that dealing and playing, than in rifle shooting."

Re: Darts Well, shooting is apparently a sport too, an Olympic event even, so why couldn't darts be a sport too?
Re: Darts How the fook is the 100m sprint a sport. Folk running up and down - what's that all about? And rowing - how is that a sport, folk sitting in a boat. And don't get me started on ice dancing. Judged on points - artistic merit. Ponsing about like a fairy. Hows that a sport? Cycling - going for a ride in the countryside - there 's not even a ball - or a net. How's it a sport. And what about line dancing hows that a sport? Walking up and down in gingham and a cowboy hat with your thumbs in your belt loops. Never right. Dueling banjo's hows that a sport. Plucking your guitar strings on a bridge in alabama. Can't be reight. But Competitive pie eating - now that's a sport.
