Four hours in hospital today with the middle child, age9. (She’s fine we think, we’ll be going back in a couple of weeks).

She had a very brief fit/seizure but we’ve no idea why.

She recovered very quickly and has no ill effects. Best guess is a temporary drop in blood pressure as she’d been kneeling down while her mum did her hair.

All clear but we do have to go back to something called a ‘first fit’ clinic in a couple of weeks. They don’t expect her to have more - but of course we will be watching like a hawk.

    Hope all is well.
Also hope that she was seen quickly and you didn't have to wait in A&E on Christmas day !

Did she have a temperature? Febrile convulsions are very scary but quite common in young kids. My eldest son had about 3. Its something they grow out of as they mature.

She said she felt warm but her ear temp was normal range.

We went to an out of hours gp after phoning 111 and him referring us straight there. It is based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary for Donny. They did some basic tests but then sent us upstairs to the paediatric observation unit. We avoided a+e altogether aside from a brief visit to get an ecg done, no waiting at all there.

We did have to wait in the unit though as the doctors were called away to a code red emergency which I believe involved a baby so all things considered I was happy to wait.

They even got us both (wife and other kids stayed home so it was just me and Isobel), some sandwiches etc when they realised we’d not had chance to have lunch, and gave her a couple of presents which Santa had apparently left there for any kids that had to come in poorly...

They were great there but the process as always was quite slow, which doesn’t matter really and I’m only really mentioning as it meant I missed out on four and a half ish hours in total of time with the other two kids on Christmas Day and of all days this year it feels like it just had to happen today.

Isobel I can happily report seems fit as the proverbial butchers dog. After a tea of crackers and cheese (why not - she didn’t want the Christmas dinner I finished cooking and served at about 7pm), she decided she did want to try out her new Segway and the go kart trolley thing it came with outside after all. At 9:30pm. Got a few looks through curtains from the neighbours, not sure they approved of her being happy and giggly at that time of night.

Couldn’t give a monkeys. She’s gone to bed smiling, the other two are ok (youngest a bit oblivious but I’m concerned about the eldest, he’s 13 and a worrier, he has come round a bit after seeing how much she recovered but he did witness the initial episode), so hopefully we’ll get a result tomorrow to cheer him up.

I’ve been sat on my backside a lot of today but I’m absolutely knackered, obviously emotionally done in, so I’m in bed and about to hopefully kip through to a good 8 or 9am. I reckon the Mrs will be up a few times in the night to check on her though, even though we’ve been told it is about as likely we’ll win euromillions as it is she’d have a fit in her sleep when her brain is relaxed.

All’s well that ends well and so on.

Thanks for letting me vent and for the concern.
