All that time without a home game, all that time without seeing the new players. Hadn't looked forward to a game for so long, and it was like watching paint dry. That formation is NOT suitable at home. Away maybe and counter attack ala Tuesday, but not at home. 4-4-2 with JCR and Hammill on the wings is the way to go at Oakwell. Astonishing how we showed no intention of upping the impetus in the second half. Muller actually seemed to be wasting time at the end. Anyone'd have though we were 3-0 up. Ah well, hopefully better next week.
No width at all. Disco or Hamill should have started with JCR so we could play two wingers. I don't see goals in midfield from anyone but JCR. We haven't replaced Howard. Misfud doesn't seem to do much anyway. With his high forehead and with being a short arse, he reminds me too much of Shuker.
Mifsud needs the ball at is feet Every time he got it he beat men and looked very dangerous. So we started lumping high balls up to him. I don't know how you can criticise him for that. Yes he's short, so are plenty of good players.
He's not really impressed in his first two games. I don't remember in either a chance he's had to score and the only thing I can remember from his first two games is his diving ability. I'm sure he will get better. It's going to take some getting used to playing in his correct position again after so long out of position. It's frustrating watching us play long ball when we have the likes of JCR and Misfud on the pitch.
It is frustrating But that's not his fault. I was working on Tuesday, but I went today and I did not see him dive at all. I've heard he supposedly did on Tuesday but that was not evident today. He's scored 1 in 3 at international level for a very poor side in 60-odd appearances which is a fantastic return. He needs the right service and he will deliver.
How is he supposed to get chances to score when the ball is hoofed 3 yards above his head? I'd have thought the wind would have detracted them from playing that hoofball tactic but they did it anyway, it was ridiculous.
As for Muller's timewasting... he was right to do it as far as I could see, we'd probably have lost 1-0 if he didn't because it was certainly coming. And I wouldn't blame him either with some of the nonsensical stick he was getting today. One point near the end when he picked the ball up and everyone was shouting for him to throw it quickly to Hammill. Now, aside from the fact Hammill was marked by two men, and Muller was throwing the ball into a galeforce wind blowing back in his face, it would have been a brilliant idea. I really don't get why some people that sit near me go to games. One bloke today, after about 20 minutes, had said "Get him off the pitch" about Van Homoet, Moore, JCR, Colace, Anderson, Andranik, Mifsud and Bogdanovic. How many substitutes does he actually think we have?
I think the formation is unsuaitable when we are "better" than the opposition. I think SD is correct to try other things (at times) to try and give us an edge, but it was clearly a mistake yesterday.
