Why? Not saying Unsworth would be a bad signing, but both Nyatanga and Souza look pretty accomplished at the back. I guess there's the argument that we need a "hard tackling" defender but then again that's the type of player who ends up in the ref's book a lot, whereas N+S don't look like the type of player who would, which might be better.
RE: Why? At the moment we only have Reid and Atkinson. Nyatanga could be gone in January. Signing Souza and Unsworth while they are both on freebis shouldn't be out of the question.</p>
Unsworth Would Be...... a good free signing. He brings experience and is the sort of player we should be getting. Souza looks class but we don't know how he will cope yet in competive games and Nyatanga is a great prospect but still a teenager and might not be around come January.
Dennis the Brazillian.........my judgement..................Emile Heskey My view of him is this; For the first 15 minutes he didn't know what he was doing He was pulled out of position a number of times He is 6'3" but did not get the headers in He seemed overly disappointed when things didn't go his way In one incident, Atkinson lost out to their winger and Dennis ran towards the winger then turned round ran back towards the centre - relised there was no one to tackle the winger and ran back out to meet the winger In another incident he did a one two and went charging up the field - obviously someone needs to tell him he's in England now, centre backs dunt do that Another incident, he missed a tackle and their forward was in on goal - a Championship player would have scored the Rotherham player didn't Remember - he was playing against a 2nd Division team yesterday However As the match went on he seemed to settle down Is distribution was very good for a centre back The litmus test will be against Wigan especially if they have Emile Heskey playing for them If he can cope with him he can cope with any Championship forward
So Nudge...... you are going to judge a trailist on the basis of how he plays against a premiership team and more specifically a former England international striker?
he didn't get the headers in? your view on things makes me wonder if i actually go to the same games as you or whether i'm just hallucinating
Moose Can you remember the first 10-15 minutes of the match Rotherham had 3 CLEAR headers to score in that period Our defenders were shouting at one another There strikers were standing with their heads in their hands moaning about lost chances Every time they got a decent cross into the box we had all sorts of problems - fortunatly Rotherham didn't take those chances, but a Championship team would have One of the best clearences during that time came from Odejayi OK, its a freindly, its the begining of the season, players haven't had games together, but if we start like that in the league then expect a slow start
Ah right that'll be the first 10 minutes of football those two have ever played together then? of course that paints an absolutely perfect picture of how they'd perform in a league match. hence why i chose to ignore that period because it's hardly indicative of how good I perceive Souza to be. but I suppose you wouldn't be you if you gave them the benefit of the doubt. see this is why we play pre-season matches, so we're not faffing around in the first 10 mins of the real thing.
Remember, Nyatanga is only here until January We can't expect him to be at the club longer than that. If we get the chance to sign somebody up (not neccesarily Unsworth) for the full season, we should take it.
