Wales is a small country and at one time had a small Welsh population - mainly farmers who tended their sheep lovingly...
With the discovery of coal came a massive influx of workers from England to work and make money in the mines.
Fast forward to 2009 - two/three generations on the descendants of those English workers make up over 95% of the population of Cardiff and surrounding area.
These people are English but they happen to live in Wales. They don't speak the Welsh language, they don't get involved in Welsh culture, they don't know the words of the Welsh National Anthem.
Then a peculiar thing happens - these English people are perceived as Welsh by the English who live in England. The Cardiff City supporters will be derided, mocked or abused by Barnsley supporters because they are perceived as Welsh. They're not Welsh they are esentially English men/women living in Wales, they find the abuse amusing because the abusers have got ot wrong.
Thanks - must dash have a sheep coming round for some attention at 5.00 p.m.

I conclude you are an absolute tit

Or a wind up. Because i'm pretty sure that those cardiff fans shouting racist abuse at 'english scum' and spitting at us at wembley while holding onto a welsh flag most likely didn't consider themselves to be english.

Ithink you'll find the hatred flows very much one-way from the Celtic fringe into England. To the North and the Westsome peoplelive and breath it. For the most part the Welsh and Scottish barelyregister on the Englishradar from onesporting event to the next.

RE: I conclude you are an absolute tit

    thanks Supertyke.
Most, if not all of those Cardiff fans at Wembley were as English as you.
They neither speak Welsh nor get involved in Welsh culture. They 'adopt' a Welsh identity when it suits them or when it is expected of them.
