Wembley Atmosphere Disappointment

The stadium looks top class from inside, I have no arguments there.

But it just wasnt like watching a football match, it was like an exhibition event. I dont want to have all the crowd noise drowned out by Girls Aloud and Gwen Stefani right up to kick-off so when the game gets going everyone is in silence. These Wembley-esc events seem so sterile and take away the individuality of the groups of fans. One day its West Brom fans waving because they are on the jumbo-tron and the next day its us - the only difference being the colour of the flag.

The days at Liverpool, Birmingham (in the play-offs), Huddersfield and such like are what I attend Barnsley games for.

I apologise if that sounds miserable.

Wembley isn't a patch on the Millennium for atmosphere

The closed low roof really made a difference compaired to the vast open space of wembley.

Its always going to be difficult when the Pontefract Road End supporters are spread between 33,000 people and the majority of the crowd were probably seeing us play for the first time this season!!

I agree with you that the stadium was first class and the team on the whole performed well with a couple of exceptions! We missed Macken and Nardiello up front neither of them would have missed the goal when 1 on 1 with the keeper!!

The atmosphere at The Torch pub before the game was better than in the ground and for me that was the most disappointing aspect of the day.

Trust me it was the fans not the stadium.

Under a closed roof at Cardiff made a weird atmosphers.

Cardiffs fans didn't have any trouble making a decent atmosphere and on my trims there to watch England. Even the freindlies got mor noise than that.

Too many happy clapping day trippers where the cause of the atmosphere and not the stadium.

Your not wrong, it obviously dilutes the 'regular' fans down. I wasnt aiming a remark about the fans not being into it, I just dont feel that the organisers of such events grasp what football atmospheres are supposed to be like - this was more like going to the theatre - the surroundings, lighting and sound system were good but the show was nothing out of the ordinary.

Ill take your word for it

That was my first trip to the new Wembley and you have obviously been before. The day-trippers obviously had an effect. Im trying not to be a football snob but the guy in front of me who spent more time getting food and drink for his two kids (who took more interest it getting static from the balloons than the game) was really getting on my tits.

After KO's miss I wish I had the balloon to be honest.

    Tell me about it.

In the it was a non event really.

To start with I wasn't bothered one bit that we lost and and was hoping that when the game was underway i would get into it. We didn't get time for a beer as we got off the coach at half 3.

Come the end of the game I can't remember ever being not so bothered we lost. I always said that the league is the priority and I'd swap the semi for 3 points at Watford.

It has been too much of a distraction and I'm just glad its over and the day trippers had a good time. and we might see them again some time in next few years Lost count of the number of cars queing in the traffic with Leeds, Wednesday and Rotherham stickers in the cars.

Now we can focus on the most important thing to BFC.

Yes went for the England qualifiers and also with a mate at work for the Blackpool - Yoevil play off final last season where Blackpools fans where all in top voice.

I love the away games where we take a good following and get behind the team. Apart from Hillsborough where we lose.

Give me Huddersfield away in the play offs to Sunday any time.

cardiff fans didn't have any trouble

probably something to do with them being in front from the 9th minute, I reckon if we had been in front the opposite would have happened. I reckon the match was the greatest factor in the atmosphere in our end.

to Dreamboy: yes the atmosphere in the Torch was very good we were in there as well and the 3 pound pint was not as expensive as we feared. Wouldn't pay it in Wombwell though :D

The atmosphere was better the last time we went to Wembley for the play off final against Ipswich and in Cardiff against Swansea.

It would be better if you had more choice in where you sat say for big games like this for example; family area, likely to sing and encourage the team or just interested in sitting and moaning!! :D
