For those of you that don't know, the Odeon has re-opened under a different name. Some bloke has ploughed loads of money into it as he thought it was such a shame that a town the size of Barnsley didn't have a cinema. We saw run fatboy run in the cavernous downstairs theatre that must hold a fair few hundred, but there were only 9 of us watching it. It's a decent enough place to watch a film, particularly as you don't have to drive to Sheffield. Felt a bit nostalgic sat in there and I was waiting for 'now is the time for ice cream, hot dogs...' but alas it never aired. I hope more people start going; if they don't it will surely go under.

The film was Ok with a few good laughs, but Thandie Newton is far too beautiful for the part. There's no way she'd look twice at a bloke like Simon Pegg.

    That's an excellent match report.

    I agree with DB3K, though.
I'd like to see "Da Rag" back in circulation.

I'd also like to see my legs caught in a threshing maching.

    Did you have popcorn?

The theatre is exactly the same

Same seats, same everything. But it's OK. Plenty of leg room. The foyer looks like it's had a make over.

Our lass saw a piece about it in The Chronicle I think, so we thought we'd give it a go. Us and 7 others.

Wonder if BMBC are giving much support ?

Hope it succeeds over BMBC's never ending quest to turn the town centre into a concrete maze.

When the new town centre is finished it will have a multi-screen cinema so l think its days are numbered.

    Parkway Cinema it is called!!

Barnsley ppl should support it!! I still think ppl are driving to Meadowhall without even thinking about the Barnsley cinema.

Jus think straight out of cinema straight into pub for a pint int tarn.

For those loonies who are worried about the carbon footprint...think on...you could save a wild panda going to Barnsley rather than Meadowhall!!!!

Don't get me started on pandas!

I've no sympathy for pandas since I saw a documentary that said just how much bamboo they need to consume just to have the energy to be able to sit and eat bamboo! And then they just fall asleep because they don't have enough energy. And they only eat shoots from bamboo that is 3 years old or something.

The only problem I have with Barnsley's cinema is the cost. I know they are all about the same now everywhere, but imo they are all too expensive - but one thing the other cinemas have over Barnsley's is that they do have cheap days, or Orange Wednesdays. Over a fiver to go watch a film for roughly an hour and half is quite expensive, especially when you consider that you can get a rental and some beers for less than that.
