My son had tickets from School as part of a marketing initiative from Town. As a Barnsley fan for almost 40 years I hate to say that in terms of matchday experience they are light years in front of us. Club shop fully stocked with lots good quality products,A great scoreboard, clear PA system, half time entertainment and interesting interview with Luther Blissett. On way out I noticed I had i had lost wallet, went back only to be told by a steward that it was waiting for me at the reception area. When I got home there was a message on my home number from the club telling me I had lost my wallet and they had it and everything was fine. Ben Mansford has a massive job to turn our club into such a professional business. Cue the messages "Go watch Huddersfield then" just trying to point out the standards we need to get to.
Sounds like a good match day experience and something to which we should aspire. I don't think match day at Oakwell is the worst experience in the country, nor even the division or region, but we do fall short of good practise in so many areas. The catering is woeful, the club shop has been poor for a long time and there are issues in lots of other areas too. But the match day programme is generally decent and better than most of those I used to see when I went to away matches (a few years ago now admittedly). If we're to make progress as a club we have to get things right on and off the pitch because while more fans attend when we're winning, I doubt we can retain them if the overall experience isn't a positive one. I tend to feel that part of the reason the likes of Swansea and Brighton were able to fill their new stadia was partly down to improving results on the pitch but also the fact that going to a match was now comparable in terms of experience with other forms of entertainment.
Agree, my wife who is no football fan was very impressed and would happily go again her comment "Everything at Barnsley seems grubby in comparison" Don't think she was referring to the supporters either. Had to tell her in football terms the two don't compare. Town were very direct and predictable.
Same situation here. My wife used to go but stopped due to the facilities rather than the quality of the football/results.
