what a pile of cack that is, place was full of wannabee dee daa americans, "naa den dee dude, wot da doing?"</p> no matter how hard the radio hallam-esque commentator tried to big it up, it was pants!!</p> first and last for me</p>
RE: good, what? nt At a guess, I would say he means "riddance" </p> But it's only a guess like.</p>
Judging a sport from one veiwing is a little short sighted. It took a couple of games to get me hooked and it also got me playing the game too. To be fair I thought satdys game was *****. It wasnt a typical game to be honest very very poor! If you do go again I recomend a game against Nottingham, Coventry or Cardiff as they have seemed to have a bit of a spark. But its the same as football you have good games and bad ones you just got a bad one. I feel better paying £13.50 and not seeing a great game than paying £20 and watching a 0-0 bore draw against Colchester in the pouring rain. Dean
good point eastie gave it a try didn't like it, don't know whether it was the americanisation or the dee daa's that put me off most.</p> The actual game wasn't up to much, bit like 5 a side, allreight to laik in but not very interesting to watch.</p> Most bizzare thing was that they had a working spa bath set up behind one goal with men, women and children getting in and out of it all through the game.</p> </p>
RE: good point eastie Only been to 1 game over here....been to 6 NHL games in the US and a completely different class. Sheffield Arena is rather ***** as well for that matter, wouldn't mind seeing a game at Manchester Arena.
RE: good point eastie Unfortunately Manchester now dont play out of the MEN as its too large. I was there a number of years ago when they had 17000 in there for the Storm V Steelers. Then a european record attendence. Ive just come back from Canada where I saw a couple of Canucks games and your right you cant compare the two. But then again its all down to having a wage cap of £7100 a week in the UK and $400,000 a week in the NHL! Dean
Agreed, I've been to a few Vipers games and enjoy it, but didn't really understand it at first (even though I took a Canadian with me).
RE: good, what? nt Two things Good that you gave it a go and Good that you wont be going back after dissing the fans after only one game. Maybe we would lose a lot of footy supporters from the club if one game was the measure. Many fans are from a wider area than just de da land, quite a few from tarn. Interestingly Saturdays game was so bad that the owner put the whole team on two weeks notice. Quit brave for a team in second place in the league and qualifying for one cup final and a decision that would be interseting to see in football. Ive been to games in the US and Finland and there are massive differences in the game between all three. Im sure that others that comment on the NHL realise that visiting an NHL game then comparing it with Steelers V Manchester is like saying that a Barnsley game doesnt match up to the Real Madrid Vs Sevilla. On a serious note though, it would be good for you to visit a better game then make a judgement on perhaps the game itself, but i am of course very very biased being Junior development officer for Sheffield Ice Hockey. In fact i think its an Under 10s game you should watch, i can at least guarantee excitment and passion there.
it wasn't so much the action on the ice that put me off, it was.... the whole fake american bit that did for me.</p> It was a bit like going to watch a football match in america where everyonewas pretending they were from barnsley, wearing flat caps and thetannoy, blaring "ayup does tha want to know who's laiking"</p> it just wasn't quite right</p> </p>
RE: it wasn't so much the action on the ice that put me off, it was.... You have to remember that it is predominatley a North Amercian sport and the authorities here have had to work hard to attract people to what is seen as a minority sport. We have always had structure but it used to be old, cold ice pads, low attendance stuff and the announcer backed by organ music (in some cases). The Superleague and now Elite league have added the razzamatazz to attract families and keep kids entertained as the sport itself is quite technical and takes a few games to get a real understanding. They have simply had to do something different from many other UK sports although i notice in recent times Rugby and even Football have added intro music and cheerleaders!!!
I went to see Toronto Maple Leafs v Buffalo Sabres last year. One of the better non football sporting events I’ve been to and also a bit of a rivalry from what I was told. Hockey over here is like comparing watching Premiership football to Welsh Non League stuff. I did go to see the Toronto Blue Jays as well but Baseball is one boring sport.
