Decent squad, a trail of decent managers fired, who've been successful in many places but not at Oakwell. What an absolute mess. And sadly like many, I'm past caring. Personally, I've never liked Johnson, but I just don't see that sacking him would do much good. We're a complete basket case. Tragic, isn't it?
Shocking and sad but to allow Johnson to continue will drive the fans away in droves' Having said that the fans are giving up anyway!
I've stopped going, and stopped caring, after many decades as a season ticket holder including many seasons in the Legends Suite. My reasons are simple. It's far too expensive to watch other clubs' players in our team, a month here, 2 months there, maybe half a season. Each summer we need to build a new squad. It's absolute madness and I've now found other things to do on match days.
The term basket case used to describe other clubs, we used to be a very well run community club but oh how things have changed and you're spot on, we are now, and have been for a few years, a basket case club. After rescuing the club PC has just about brought it to its knee's and its not far from dying. Maybe that was his long term plan, it would explain the sacking of Danny and the appointment of Lee effing Johnson because nothing else explains it.
That for me is the saddest part. ^^ Personally I believe that Patrick wants success as much as we do, but maybe he's bitten off more than he can chew.
Agree with that. I can't see any reason at all why Patrick Cryne would WANT the club to fail. Some people might say he isn't a nice person or any other criticism of his personality but that doesn't mean he isn't a supporter of Barnsley fc who genuinely wants what is best for the club. Sadly wanting what is best and having the knowledge, time and ability to run the club in a manner that achieves the best are two totally different things. The way I see it is that you have two options when owning a football club. Run it to its full potential getting the maximum income from all streams possible, spend what you earn and make careful decisions when hiring and firing staff from first tea manager to turnstyle operator. OR you ignore all that, pump millions and millions in and buy the best players and manager and but success. We appear to be in a kind of halfway house mess where we are not being run to our full potential, aren't being careful enough with who we appoint and are throwing what are in the grand scheme of things small amounts of money at the club periodically. A recipe for disaster
I assumed it was, and I agree with the sentiment - some of the decisions that have been made to supposedly benefit the club have been as odd as they have been detrimental.
I just don't understand why successful millionaire businessmen become bumbling fools incapable of managing the milk money when they take over football clubs.
It's an interesting question and one which I've often pondered myself. Maybe Supertyke isn't too far away with this suggestion? http://bbs.barnsleyfc.org.uk/showth...at-we-do-not-need-a-money-man-owning-the-club Could it be that the single-mindedness and determination required to build a successful business actually becomes an obstacle when running a football club, where a more rounded and diverse approach (ie more people making the key decisions) is required? I'm just speculating here, but the answer could lie somewhere in this direction.
