Exactly what we said at the game Phil. Sort of puts things into perspective regarding budgets. And before people have a go I wasn't happy with today but I am looking longer term with Hill.

Nolan is on more than our entire team I reckon, still no excuse for such an abject performance. Fair enough losing, but in that style is totally unacceptable.

At least someone's trying to show a bit of perspective...

It's a shame it's Hemsworth Tyke, because he usually gets ridiculed and ignored because that's the popular thing to do. It's like playground bullying with the lad.

I'm with you Hemmsy. Regardless of how much debt they're in, they're paying wages that we couldn't dream of paying, and so can afford much better players, to the extent that there's an argument that every man on their bench would walk into our team.

It would seem, reading most on here, they were there for the taking, and we were just ****.

I think that is about as subtle as H/T gets, he means we cant compete against the big boys.

That does not mean we should roll over and let them play with our balls though!

Do you think we played well? Or even had a go at them at all?

Is that too much to ask? Even if we have no cash the players that go out in Red should have some attempt at beating the opponents surely?

either the manager can't motivate the players, they don't give a ****, not playing for him, or simply not good enough. something is seriously wrong in the dressing room

Can I also say I think they were the most committed team I've seen for a long time.
Sometimes even though your own team were poor you have to give credit to the opposition, a premier league team in all but status

3rd goal was poor comebacks of O'Brien and Perkins were encouraging West Ham should have won this league comfortably.

Sorry but if you think the difference tonight was just down to money your'e deluding yourselves, I've seen us mix it with bigger teams than that lot over the years and we might have lost quite a few of them. BUT seldom have I witnessed such an impotent effort as our lot put up tonight, there were so many things wrong with that performance (on top of many recent ones) if people are paying good money to watch they should at least be able to expect more than the odd attemt at goal for a start, and players that can at least attempt a challenge not watch from six foot away.

I said exactly the same when I saw the teamsheet. The gulf between us and them in terms of quality is absolutely massive, and money is the main reason for that.

However, they didn't play especially well tonight, and apart from the second goal, it wasn't so much their quality that beat us, but our own lack of quality. As soon as we conceded the sloppy first, it was obvious that they were going to control the game, and the only question was how many they'd score. If it wasn't Easter weekend with another game coming up on Monday, I think they'd have run in 7 or 8 - as it was they took it easy 2nd half.

Endeavor can only take us so far - and I stayed to clap the players off on the simple basis that they're doing their best - but we're well short of the other teams in the league on quality at the moment. Any of their bench would walk into our team.

There's no middle ground on here is there?

Just because they have better players than us - that performance today was poor, end of. It wasn't just about being beaten by higher paid players.

But if it satisfies some to put down every defeat to the other team having more money than us we might as well jack it in.

How did Doncaster manage a draw at Upton Park recently? And Watford?

Have I suggested if we'd a go at them they'd have rolled over? No.

All I've done is criticise a performance, and it's not often I've done that on here for a long time.

Yes some people are way over the top, that doesn't mean every post has to be castigated by the 'believers' or the 'realistic' people.

Re: At least someone's trying to show a bit of perspective...

I don't think we played well. But I thought the main reason we didn't play well was down the the opposition being much better, rather than us not even trying.

There aren't many other teams who play like West Ham do in this league. Until half time, they pressed us all the way through. With the way we have been trying to play (keeping the ball, building from the back), West Hams tactics force errors. The difference between two teams then tends to come down to quality, which West Ham have in abundance.
