I know we don't sell know where near enough tickets, but if you/we had enough money how would you renovate it!
Not much different than it is now height wise.probably keep the lower seating more or less same with a batch of exec boxes at back with press boxes directors seating and vip seating at back of them.
Personally, if it's ever allowed, rip out the seats in the lower teir and put safe standing there. Do up the seats at the back and it would be fine.
I would take it down in sections carefully and erect it elsewhere on the clubs (sorry Patrick's) land where it would be enclosed at the front with a glass wall and front (essentially like a conservatory build over the front uncovered area). I'd then turn it into a massive museum and attraction for the club. The west side of the ground would then have an identical copy of the east stand built there with the space under it used for a number retail outlets or entertainment facilities that people would pay to use.
Must be one of the oldest stands in the whole league, I sat in Block E for the Premier League season, and have sat there for many other good memories, if it needs to go though, so be it.
http://www.tothe92.co.uk/groundguide/barnsley.html on that website it says we was going to upgrade it in 2008 is this true?
Knock it down and build something similar size with ex boxes and make it join right on to the Ponty and North Stand Its starting to get embarrassing
Fantastic ground, fantastic support and fantastic fans at Barnsley….23 thousand were in attendance at the game and the home fans certainly knew how to get behind there team, was rather intimidating at times but non the less a fantastic ground…would advise everyone to visit oakwell, real english ground. this was by a Manchester united fan a few years back.
But isn't half the west stand unusable through one thing or a other? If it is seems a shame to me nostalgia's OK in doses.
