I've heard all sorts of rumours that either half the stand will be closed due to health and safety, all the wooden stand is being closed or that it is getting knocked down and replaced because we can get a grant by having a health centre in it. If we did knock it down and replace it with same sized stand as East stand, capacity would be 25,747. Can anybody clarify what is actually going on please? Cheers.
I don't think there's space to build a replica of the East Stand there as it stands... Can West Stand ST holders renew their season ticket? I've not seen anything saying they can't so I think it's as it was. The North end of it wasn't used for fans last season anyway. I think the club want to redevelop it one day but don't have the cash to do so at the moment, even with a grant - but that's just my reading of it.
That's so it didn't need to be covered by stewards. No point opening it up to fans when there's thousands of seats available everywhere else - including other areas of the West Stand.
Yeah, saved the club a couple of thousand over the season by closing that section. Good idea really. Would imagine we may need it open though now, as Sheff Weds, Leeds & Hull will probably require some more seats. A replica of the east-stand is possible, although it would become quite tight at the ponty end, and would maybe need some kind of road alteration- i.e. one way traffic calming jobby in. What we have to remember, is that the West Stand has a lot of un-used space inside - the changing rooms and ref's rooms are no longer used for that purpose. The Chairman's office and alike could all be located in the hospitality box section of the new West Stand, as I doubt we'd need all them boxes. Overall, it's down to money. It does need doing, but we'll have to wait.
The chairman's office and other people's offices are located under the Ponty End currently, no real need to move them. But yep, main obstacle I guess is cash.
RE: Havnt the.... people who own houses to the rear of the west stand objected to the re-development of it? I heard they objected because they were on bout it would obstruct their view from windows? Just what i heard?!!
RE: Haven't the.... They may do, but they probably can see f*ck-all now anyway, and, as the Club has been there longer than the houses, it serves them right for buying it their. Sorry, but if you buy a house near a football ground, you should expect re-development, parking problems, noise problems, litter, police helicopters and even riots. And yes, the school is gonna be knocked down - do I remember years ago, that the club bought a few of the houses and options on the school, or am I dreaming?
Club i thought that the club owned the school and some of the houses. i think the plan is to buy the house when they become available. and eventually redevelop the stand. not to sure now though???
RE: Club think they own a few and used them for players to live in while they got settled in the area
Allegedly ..... .... the club (under the old Board)had negotiated to buy the houses, but one owner declined the offer(at the time) also, plans had been drawn up to build a near replica of the East stand, which would have taken up nearly all of the footpath on Grove St., without having to re-align the road. .... So I was led to believe, by someone involved.
a few points.. for what its worth as a developement is highly unlikely for at least a season or two...
1. I know someone who lives in one of the houses and they have no right to light or any other grounds to object to planning permission other than if it leads to traffic problems which would be very tenuous. The only other viable objection to planning permission is if the developement would lead to the residents losing enjoyment of their gardens by being overlooked. Again not very likely as the fronts of the houses have little or no garden. PS look at the back of bratfut's home end and you will get the general idea.
2. As of 18 months ago they said the club had not, in recent times, attempted to buy the properties because of the above. i.e. ther was no need for them to do it as the housing is in actual fact a good way back from any proposed stand, even one of east stand proportions or greater.
3. The only possible pinch point is around the school which is being closed. even here the school is a good way off the perimeter wall and I doubt it would make any difference
4. With the school closed and redeveloped? the council (who jointly own Oakwell) would have the necessary power to move the road should they wish. It may fall into the council & Patrick Cryne's long term plans for the stadium.
I thank You.
I could be wrong mindsthi, in part or indeed in total!

i thought 1 of the reasons we couldnt develop it last time was the school objected saying they would have to have lights on all day? how many schools DONT have their lights on anyway? but if the school is about to close that problem as gone away.
As I have said and you would know is you had recieved a letter from the council regarding a planning application there are very few things you can have a valid planning objection about.
1. Reducing the enjoyment of your garden.
2. Road safety
and a few others
So the light bit is a load of B*ll*cks je pense.

Furthermore.. Depth of east stand to pitch..abart 30m
West stand perimeter wall to pitch..abart 27m
[img=http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/7031/bratfut3ue.jpg]
[img=http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/5877/well0sz.jpg]

At present there aint any.. ..but should the council & Mr Cryne sell off parts of the car parks for housing and we stay in the championship and there's any grants available then it just may happen in a couple of years or so.
Don't hold your breath mind
