Exclusive: Barnsley make offer for Palace striker

    Thursday, 09 July 2009

    By Richard Cawley

CRYSTAL Palace boss Neil Warnock says he doesn’t expect Alan Lee to join Norwich - and has revealed Barnsley have registered an interest in the out-of-favour front man.

The Canaries have confirmed they have held talks with the Eagles about the 30-year-old who spent the end of last season on loan at Carrow Road.

But Warnock said: “We’re a long way short of doing a deal - I can’t see a move to Norwich coming off. Firstly the fee is nowhere near what we value him at and their wage offer is nowhere near what Alan is getting.

“Alan wants to go there but he and his agent are not daft - if Norwich can’t come up with the goods they will have to look at other options. We have had an offer from Barnsley.”

Don't miss tomorrow's South London Press for all the latest Palace news.

    just to emphasise

Neil Warnock's brought this into the public domain, not Davey.

Think it is more likely than Gray signing

as Palace are interested in signing him, and it won't involve him moving home.

Decent enough player but in all honesty he's a poor man's Andy Gray.
Fee and wages will be less so he fits the bill.
Past his best and not exactly going to put bums on seats.

Andy Gray or Alan Lee - hmmmm

Very similar, but both somewhat injury-affected. If both are 100% fit, I would go for Gray, as he has a better scoring-record of recent years and plays the combined target-man/striker better. Alan Lee is a good target man, who is capable of scoring some goals. He was mustard at Rotherham and was one of the players who did look as though he was bothered in his spell at Norwich at the end of the season.

If they are both fully fit - I would take Gray. Lee would do a job for us.

I think he could do a good job for us at the right price.

I used to be a massive fan of Alan Lee,great front man but I watched him 3 times for Norwich last year and he was awful.
Jon Stead 1st,Andy Gray 2nd are target men choices for me at Championship level.

I'd be dead chuffed if we signed either Lee or Gray

I know they're not everyone's cup of tea, but (in my opinion) they're both better than anything we've got at present as an out and out target man.

    It's a tough one.

Both have a wealth of experience. Both are big, strong men who are very good with the ball at their feet. I must admit though, I've never been a fan of Andy Gray, and there isn't an explanation for it, he's just a footballer who I've never really liked. So, for that reason, I'd prefer Alan Lee.

    Got to agree

Either would be a massive improvement on Oddjob.
