since our double over them in 99/00. The one thing I remember about the home match which we won 5-1 was Robin Van Der Laan almost scoring a spectacular overhead kick only for it to hit the bar, bounce back up and Bruce Dyer nodded it in. Would love another rout like that game this time. Our fire power this season is arguably just as dangerous, in fact the last season we'd scored more than this by the same point in the season, at championship level, was 99/00.
Be reyt. We'd not beaten Norwich in last 11 attempts. We'd not beaten Cardiff in last 6 attempts. We'd not beaten QPR in last 6 attempts. Only anomaly is Wednesday and we could play their U14s at Hillsborough and they'd still win.
My memory of Blackburn was in 1981/2 when we lost 1-0, it was one of those games when we could have played till kingdom come and not scored. They scored with just about their only decent chance. I went to Ewood Park December 1983 for a 1-1 draw, when our keeper (can't remember who it was) saved a penalty.
They aren't such a bad team as league position suggests. Few narrow losses and beat Newcastle. Would be delighted with any kind of win. If we can win the so called "winnable" games then we really can start looking up not down for the rest of the season.
Agreed. Would be great to make the most of our home advantage after winning at Cardiff. The previous times we've played them they've had the advantage of having spent a lot of money. I expect a much more level playing field this time. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
Me too. But that last time I went to a match actually expecting to win (always dangerous as a red) was Forrest. Hopefully we've learnt our lessons. Stop Danny Graham & Stop Blackburn it would seem.
Does anyone remember playing them at Oakwell when the floodlights failed? They played on for about 5 minutes before the ref stopped the game
Yep, I remember it. Would've been mid to late 80's I'd say, in the days of Simon Garner and Noel Brotherston playing for them. Can't remember score though? May have been 1-1 and no doubt Garner would've scored for them as he always did against us.....
I don't know what the score will be but I know Simon Garner is going to s ore for them off his arse in the 89th minute.
One of my favourite ever games was against Blackburn under Mel Machin. They were on the edge of the playoffs right at the start of the Jack Walker era. We were on a fantastic run having not conceded for six or seven games. We still had an outside shout of the playoffs but after an awful start we were playing catch-up. Shearer (Duncan, not Alan) put them ahead at half time, but we turned it round with a superb second half display and won 2-1. Mark Smith scored a bullet header from a corner, but I don't remember whether it was the equaliser or the winner. Late on Blackburn brought on Roy Wegerle as a sub but he didn't have a number on his shirt. Mad Mel took exception to this and ended up ****ting Ray Haford apparently, though as I was standing in the West Stand I didn't get a good view. Brilliant atmosphere and performance.
Be fantastic to win these last two games of 2016, What a fantastic finish to a fantastic year. Whatever happens though I think we ought to do something as fans last game of season to show our appreciation for the year the club and players have given us.
WI'll be a tough game against blackburn we beat em and we're well clear of that bottom 3 at the half way stage happy days.
