that looks incredibly spurious to me. will take far more credible sources for me to believe that

Start of negotiations, as it says, Steele would accept reduced terms so now it's a case of trying to meet in the middle.

Not right if true, but the source doesn't look very credible.

    Nice choice of picture though.

That site is absolute rubbish, opinions and guesses are stated as fact.

The club probably will offer Luke reduced terms along with any of the players that have been a few years.

Luke will have to understand that the club's trying to run at a profit or break even and not lose large amounts of money like it would have the season he signed that.

I'm not sure but Hassell and Steele along with Foster were the only ones last season that played under Simon Davey (Yes Reuben Noble-Lazarus did too but he wasn't a pro then i don't think). Weren't the likes of Anderson, Colace Moore Kozluk on a rumoured 8K a week then and now Perkins Dawson Craine Golbourne closer at half that or less.

Foster reduced terms last season apparently and signed a one year contract.
My opinion on it would be a 20% reduced contract to Steele which would make him the, or one of the highest contracted players at the club. Hassell would be a hugh slash. a Sports direct 60% plus slash because i don't think he'll be a first hoice player or even be in the squad most weeks. I think Flitcroft will try and sign one, maybe two centre backs and hopefully keep craine and mcnulty and they'll be the four in there. I would say Wiseman at Right back and i would hope Jones will grow after playing in the first team last season.

Difficult one this. Obviously we have to take the reports with a pinch of salt anyway, and we would like to keep Luke Steele, but at the end of the day if football players at our level (ie, with very little coming in by way of sponsorship or money through the turnstiles) have to take a pay cut to keep their jobs then so be it. I would imagine that if you take a few hundred of the fans in the stand at random you will find that their total earnings between them will have gone down by over 20% over the past year. My drop in salary can't actually be calculated in a percentage, being that it dropped to zero just before Christmas. Whatever is happening though, lets hope that an agreement can be reached with Steele, as it would be a shame to lose him for a few quid, particularly when it is almost certain that he would then go to a club that is a few million pounds further in debt than we are. How does that work then?!?

If that is true, it's a big mistake. To get a keeper as good as Luke will cost us a million quid plus wages.

Hemsie, you are a mile off with that summation, sorry.

WE have to cut out cloth according to current financial restraints. Half the problem is damn agents who want their cut. If players are happy at a club, kick the agent into touch and use a solicitor. As in days of yore.

No player has had 8k at Oakwell since Mike Sheron.

Anderson was almost certainly on a lot of money. Colace the same. Moore Gray

All on a lot of money.

Nowhere near what you are suggesting. Ashley ward was offered 10k to stay at Bfc and that would have broke the wage structure by some margin. And that would have meant foregoing 3.5m of transfer fee. Sheron and Dyer were the last big earners, after that we nearly went bust and have not thrown money around like that since. Read the history HT.

Andy Gray was our highest paid player when he was at the club, and he was on lower than 8k.

I can't remember where I heard it but I seem to recall that Steele was on 7k.

Including Mike Sheron! He wasn't on anything like £8k. John Dennis was asked about wages at the Evening With do and he said the top earner in Barnsley's history was Craig Hignett, who one season earned £300k. He said this included signing on fees and bonuses too. If that's true it blows all talk about Sheron's £8k per week out of the water. I can't imagine that any players have been on wages higher than this since Dennis left the club. Unless they were being subsidised by Leeds of course!

It amazes me that players insist on using agents, but they still do. It's a status thing amongst a lot of players.

He's decided it's fact. No point dissuading him.

There isn't a player at Oakwell on more than 5 grand a week. Including Hemswoggle's two favourites.

But if it suits an agenda, who am I to tell the truth...?

THEY'RE ALL ON 20 GRAND A WEEK THE ROTTEN EGGS!
