And Brian Howard scored one of those and set up another. He's been very much involved in half the goals we've got. And he's proved time and again in the past that he's capable of doing that on a regular basis. I don't know all the ins and outs and what has gone on, which I suspect is the case for the vast majority on here despite all the theories, but I do know the team is struggling for goals. That situation will only be exacerbated if Brian Howard leaves. We're losing our top goalscorer and top goal provider of the last two seasons yet a lot of people on here appear happy about the situation. I'm shocked. Brian Howard is a good Championship player. I want to see good Championship players at Barnsley football club. If he departs I think we'll be a poorer team and our chances of avoiding relegation will dip considerably. I find it really hard to understand how people have so underestimated his importance to the team over the last couple of seasons. As for the abuse he has received, I just don't know where to start.

Good luck if you're going Brian, but I wish you'd stay with us.

    RE: Totally agree

For two years in the Championship, Brian Howard has been a class act. Our top goalscorer, and our top provider, and I don't argue for one second that a motivated Brian Howard is a huge miss. I don't want him to leave - of course I don't, but I understand the situation thats occurring. Whether its the clubs fault, Davey's fault, Howard's fault, in some way this whole situation has become untenable.

I'm devastated we're losing the man who provided me with unbelievable memories at Anfield, and in many other games in the last three years. I might not approve of the amount that he seems to drink, or the way that he captains the side, but I know how good he is on his day and I know his goals and assists are going to be so so tough to replace.

If we could have convinced him to stay, paid him the money to stay, and he'd been willing to sign, it would have been fantastic. But somewhere along the line, its gone wrong, and I hope this statement will explain - though I don't think it will.

    Good luck Brian.

Why assume it's Davey's decision? Why would Davey decide to get rid of a player he made captain and picked week in, week out?

It could be the board, it could be the player, it could be Davey, we don't know, but I doubt it's the latter

Mostly agree (which is a shock to me)..........but dont agree with the last part

First part, yes I agree, he is very important to the team and at the moment he is the only player that looks like scoring, and this at a time when we cant score.............he couldn't have left at a worse time.

However, what I can gather is that Howard and SD have had words and Howard has been saying things on the lines of - I'm too good for Barnsley FC.
If thats the case then Howard deserves all the abuse he gets.

And as far as the good luck is concerned............no foooking way will I wish him good luck going to a Sheffield club /poo

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.

    Agreed.

Think he went downhill when he started to think he was the team rather than part of it. I for one never thought he was anything better than a solid Championship standard player, but he has been one of our better players over recent years and the way this whole situation has been handled is farcical.
