So I'll gladly accept three points today. Paddy McCourt's goal was wonderful, the stuff of legends. It's years since we've seen such a talented & gifted player as Paddy. Thankfully, according to the radio, he went off because he was ill, rather than injured. A bit of a grumble, though, I'd just prefer us to attack for a full match, as opposed to adopting tactics that seem to try and grab defeat from the jaws of victory. As I said to Doddy on the way out of the ground, there's an easy way to do things and then there's the Barnsley way!
well it was squeaky bum at the end, why do they do this ? but as Meatloaf says 2 out of 3 aint bad. We won we got off the bottom, but we failed the clean sheet. Good news matey I have been able to re-negotiate my work pattern and this means I will be able to get to about half the home games per season as opposed the odd 1 or 2. so I will be sitting next to you and asking for ice cream all thru the game.
***CLANG*** That was some name drop there, mate Glad to see Paddy's still got it, I saw him do that quite a few times for Celtic.
Just before he scored we were saying that he looked ill, not injured, he looked very lethargic, even for him, LOL, then he scored a Georgie Best type goal. The mind boggles what he is capable of when fully fit and up for it.
I think that was the problem today. I said to my brother just before Paddy scored that we needed someone who could produce something out of nothing, because with Fox and Perkins as a central pairing, we looked like creating very little. Couple this with Mellis and McCourt on the wings; Mellis looked lost, very rarely got on the ball and offered very little support to the front 2 who were isolated for the majority of the first half. We got the first, the 2nd followed in somewhat fortunate fashion and then we finally seemed to have the bit between our teeth. I think we still failed to create a little in the second half, but I suppose the job seemed to be done. I thought Fox picked up as the game went on, but I'd like to see him playing alongside either Mellis or Etuhu. It says a lot that we scored 3 goals, and yet the 2 strikers had about 3 chances between them all game. Take nothing away from the victory though, I feel we thoroughly deserved it, and it's just what we needed going into next Saturday.
I thought it was a game between two poor sides, and for once things went our way. Not that I care. We won. And a much needed three points int bag. The biggie is next weekend. Massive, in fact.
There is no reason for next week to be more important than today 3 points at stake We could play well and lose, like last season. Or we could play not so well and win. Still 3 points This "derby" stuff adds spice but the same meal is on the table.
you may have hit a nail quite squarely on the head there Fi. I think all and sundry wanted nothing less than 3 Pts today, and I reckon not just the fans. We got said points, but I think there is still cause for concern over the second half efforts.
Re: you may have hit a nail quite squarely on the head there Fi. Points first at this stage then hopefully the performances and results will come with the confidence from grinding out results.
Give over. It's our biggest home game of the season, agaînst our closest rivals, COG getting revenge and getting Jones the sack rather than saving his bacon like last year.
