We've signed a new striker, but what about the one we keep playing on the wing?

He was doing OK when played as a striker down the middle.

We seem to have had a succession of managers who constantly play people out of position, when they have proved to be effective in their favored position.

This lad from Hudders is by all accounts a winger, so it....should...allow Davies and Nouble down the middle..to have a proper go at a suspect Peterboro defence

I can't understand why he isn't up front. The only argument for it is if we play 5 in midfield Gray holds the ball up better but I'd sacrife that for Davies goal threat. Although this new lad does sound promising

Id like to see a defender at right back

The question for me is....why do we play 5 in mid-field...if its to protect the defence..then it ain't working because we never keep a clean sheet....and if its to create more attacking option....then that don't work either because we don't get near the oppositions net..
What it does do is it allows us to keep possession in none threatening areas of the field....
I think there's only Hillcroft and Hemsey that inexplicably still think its a good idea..

    5 in midfield did work

When we had the quality of Butterfield's shooting and played to his strength (which was less defensive duties with engine-Perkins and box-to-box Drinkwater) it worked very well. Add to that the flair of O'Brien and Vaz Te, I genuinely believe that was a top-6 midfield.

Now we have no creatively in the middle, we are playing big lads all over and the nice pass and move football that defined us pre-2012 has been lost.

Davies MUST be up front and with someone nippy. Davies and Higginbotham/Rose could work.

That's kinda my point..we don't have the players now to play that system....to play 5 across the middle you need at the very least 1 scoring mid-fielder, and to make work ok 2...which we had in Butterfield and Vas te....and as for Drinkwater he was the key that allowed them to do that....
we are still trying to play that way....without much chance of achieving it....why?
