Pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and start all over again (could be the lyrics of a song!:D).
Beaten by the better team on the day, who were certainly a darn sight more street wise, to put it diplomatically. After the run we've been on, I don't think there's any reason to start with personal recriminations against any individual now we've lost one game. Onwards and upwards, starting with away at Fleetwood next Saturday.

but you surely realise that this is the end of the world don't you

as of now we will be crap and going down...Only that pointless day at Wembley for us now... mark my words mate this nonsense will rear its head again... we lost at Gillingham but bounced straight back, we will do the same again after this match. The stats on the BBC suggest we were the better side, but that's just stats and I was not there to comment otherwise. Maybe had that penalty gone in the result would have been more favourable. But anyway I have to get on with cleaning up my my 'moth-balled' golf equipment in readiness for my retired years ...

    :)

Just one of those days. If folk are going to complain after the run we've been on, then what can you do? Those lads have been terrific since Christmas, so I'm flummoxed if they can't be cut some slack after a disappointing defeat.

The Chumbawamba lyrics came into my head then.

    "I get knocked down
    But I get up again
You're never gonna keep me down"

The anthem of the 1997/98 season for me and it's that spirit we need to call upon for the rest of the season.

    Yup, totally agree.
But I'm an old wrinkly, mate, so that's why I went for the much older lyrics.:D

Their play acting brought them some respite, as the referee kept falling for it. The best (worst?) example was in the second half when the defender hit the ground after being beaten to the ball by Fletcher. Young Ashley was nowhere near him, despite his team mates protestations to the referee. The defender soon jumped up when Fletcher gave him a volley of abuse for his cheating.
We stood our ground when the likes of Millwall, Bury, Doncaster & Coventry adopted similar tactics. Today, Southend had too much nous and were more street wise, both on the pitch and touchline. Personally, I enjoy watching our style of football and believe in the squad of players & Hecky.
