What a disappointment it would be if we appointed Hignett

Linked with names such as Adkins and Rosler who have achieved success in the last few years, O'Driscoll, Johnson and Di Canio who everyone has an opinion one way or the other about and Cooper who has had a brilliant season. Appointing Hignett just gives nothing

Agree entirely. The guys a club legend but that isn't whats needed at the minute, unless it was Mick.

I'd be very underwhelmed with Hignett. He's not the man to pick up falling attendances.

He was a fantastic player for us Late 90s early 2000 but has had no outright managerial experience so it would certainly be a gamble, but to be honest its a gamble with anyone.

Would prefer a more experienced candidate but if its Hignett then welcome back to Oakwell Craig!

I'd quite like hignett purely and simply because the guy really wants the job. We've had too many managers here lately who saw it as a paycheck and have slagged off the town and club. Clearly not wanting to be here but happy to take our money. Well **** em, give itmhiggy who loves the club and has shown a lot of passion already

Yeah it would be greatly underwhelming to give the job to someone with no experience simply because he's a former player for us.

Which manager did not want to be here, but applied and got the job anyway?

Quite a few have probably subsequently considered it a poisoned chalice. But to suggest that any of them just wanted the money when they first arrived is ridiculous.

Hignett may or may not be a good choice. What he is, is more of a risk than some of the others.

I can see where you're coming from

but at least Hignett has some experience at Boro, my choice would be Adkins but maybe he's too pricey?

I initially thought Adkins would be too pricy once his name was linked but surely we believe a deal can be done if we've interviewed twice

Good point. The bookies tend to be right with football but with our manager, they don't know whether they're coming or going

If Hignett interviews well i think it's an appointment to be supported. At least he us not associated with failure like some if the candidates. Wouldn't be my first choice but wouldn't be a bad choice.

    a very stupid post

I do agree that Hignett should not be employed as our next manager... but for the simple reason that I do not want a Barnsley legend should suffer as did SOOPER john and now Danny. Also that's why I am glad Redders seems set in the Leeds role... Like them or not I hope he has success and is never destroyed at Oakwell... I never ever want any of our legends to be killed off.... and we seem to be bloody good at doing exactly that.

Adkins might want to wait for another Championship club. He's got some reputation to play with and sure he might come for an interview but his last two clubs have been going somewhere, where as we ain't. I'd be surprised.

I rated him highly as a player, he's one of the most gifted players we've had, but as a manager I don't see him as a better candidate than Burton. If we're going down the young and hungry' route we may as well give Burton a crack at it.

I'm not against Hignett per se. However I'd prefer someone with no prior relationship to the club. Cryne rightly said at the no. 7 event that people who have a close connection or personal involvement with the club are prone to have some degree of bias in the decisions that are taken. Ideally we want someone who is taking decisions from a rationally for the good of the club , rather than based on some prior inbuilt bias.

Sure that with enough thought there'll be loads of examples that disprove my point. But would be interesting to know whether people who have prior connections to clubs are on average better or worse than those who don't. I'd wager worse.
