    Paid my wages cheque into the bank today, 23/12, and was told that due to holidays, weekends etc etc that it probably wouldn't clear till the 3rd or 5th of Jan.
    Mortgage goes out 1st Jan.......
    WTF WTF WTF !!!!!!

    a few points...

    1. your mortgage won't clear on the 1st because it's a bank holiday - it'll clear on the 2nd instead
    2. if a cheque was paid in on the 23rd the banks must clear it fully by the 4th working day - which will be Tuesday 30th December, or Wed 31st at the very latest.
    3. do people really still get their wages by cheque? blimey.

    RE: a few points...

    How do you work out that the 4th working day is next Tuesday or Wednesday?

    1st working day after today is next Monday, discounting New Years Day cause that's a bank holiday it means the 4th working day is Friday Jan 2nd

    It beggars belief that people still get paid by cheque or even cash. I pay my lads by fastpay on a Thursday night. The moneys in their accounts within two hrs of my sending it.
