90 minutes of end to end, passionate play from both sides. Watford came to play and we matched them all the way, and some. I feared the worst but when Howard slapped the first home we were always going to be in with a shout. And Devaney's goal, Barnsley's 2nd, was one of the finest in living memory at the 'Well. I may be getting carried away, I haven't seen it on telly yet but the speed of that move, the way he connected and swerved it into the bottom left hand corner was just superb. Then Watford came back and from 2 set moves, at half time it was all level and anyone's game. But how superb were we second half? Stan's miss, Disco's miss, we could have been 4-2 up, and JCR was causing all sorts of problems, so when the winner came, and I'm not sure what happened, but I felt we really deserved it, I was emotionally bolloxed. The last 15 minutes lasted a lifetime. We hung on fantastically and the passion was there for all to see. Watford were beaten, Barnsley were victorious and deservedly so. What a shame only 8,500 locals saw that. I'm not having a go, in previous seasons I've been one of the most prolific part-timers, I'm just saying that would have been even better with 15,000 tarnfolk cheering their team on. They deserved that much. So if you are a fence sitter can I suggest now is a rather good time to make a reappearance at the 'Well of dreams.
Now go into Tuesday boys and do Wednesday.

Best game I've been to for years There were occasions during the game that I found myself singing! A rare and sickening occurance.
Bit gutted I couldn't go! But it was go today or go on Tuesday (due to money) and on Tuesday I have a free lift, and company which is always nice.
If only I wasn't graduating and didn't have to waste money on that

RE: Best game I've been to for years Was it the same sport as the Blackpool game? No comparison really.
I'm with you ... I took my two lads with me, both born and bred in Buckinghamshire but now devoted Reds season ticket holders, yet they looked at me a bit misty eyed when I kept standing up joining in with the chants of "Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire!" every time it got a bit punchy. Gets me every time. Right there ...
RE: I'm with you ... I never really feel right joining in, I'm not from Yorkhire so it's kinda not right, same goes for the 'if you're proud to come from barnsley clap your hands'
You're a reds fan You're Yorkshire enough. Join the band mate. and besides, "... best thing to come out of Lancashire is t'road to Yorkshire" courtesy of my grandad and countless others.
Ahh right, can't say I know Sherington though There's not much in this county, so many of the places I have never been to, I only tend to be around the kettering area...that's bad enough!
RE: Ahh right, can't say I know Sherington though I lived in Kettering for a bit. I was only 3 months old though! The only place ive got photos on is Wickstead Park.
It's a bit off the beaten path ... ... to say the least. And we're in Bucks. At least you have NORTH in your name.
RE: Ahh right, can't say I know Sherington though Good old Wickstead park, I was there for a fireworks display a few weeks back, it was great. Many happy memories of Wickstead park when I was little. Some great bithdays there!
Aye but no-one knows where it is, and it's such a boring area to grow up in. Really hit home after finishing uni, cannot wait to leave!
That'd very much be my Dad's fault Both him and my Mum (strangely who met down here), are both from Barnsley. As is my entire family, me and my Sister are the only 2 not born in Yorkshire I think.
But my Dad took me from a young age, didn't take long til I was hooked. Unfortunately, the last few years I've had to go by msyelf which makes it less fun I guess, a lot of travelling alone can get rather boring, but I still go whenever I can afford ti (which isn't enough at the moment as my bank balance is still suffering from uni!)

Spot on - best I've seen for years I thought Watford were very good, but a little bit too physical, they got away with mauling Stan and Macken repeatedly in the first half, although the ref made up for it with a couple of friendly decisions in the second, especially the "penalty" in injury time.
RE: Spot on - best I've seen for years From where I was sitting in the East Stand Upper, it looked like a very elaborate DIVE and obviously the Ref thought the same. One of the very few things he got right all afternoon.
RE: Ahh right, can't say I know Sherington though
My paternal ancestors come from the Kettering area - they were farm labourers in a village called Scarsdale.

RE: Spot on - best I've seen for years At the time I thought it was a stick-on pen but having seen it on the Championship I'm not so sure now.
I can see why the ref wasn't convinced.
