I scored one like that once....

Up on t'greeney, behind Platts Common ambulance station. Only laiking on sunday afternoons. I'd get criticised for falling over every time I scored a spectacular goal. I'd have been six or seven at the time...

Hoyland Common Falcons 1984/85 season played opposite St Peters church just down from Tow Law Stand got the ball in the centre circle and beat 3 men before unleashing a thunderbolt into the top corner fromabout 25 yards out.

    Couldn't stop that.

    Say sorry.

    Once reffed a junior match

Barnsley Boys Club v another team. A certain young man called M McCarthy was playing for the boys club. The keeper took a short goal kick to him which he picked up just outside his own area.

He then proceeded to carry the ball the length of the pitch. Opposition players who got in his way were either soundly beaten, battered (legally) out of the way or they simply bailed out of the challenge. Having carried the ball the length of the field, he rounded the keeper and pressed on towards the goal. He stopped with the ball about 5cm from the goal line, got down on his hands and knees and headed it in from on the ground.

He got told off by the manager (a certain Keith Steele, Johnny Steel's son I think) for taking the p***.

Not a bad goal that. I remember thinking this lad could go far in the game. Wonder what happened to him?

Ask my sis, I believe she saw him very recently. I think she managed to recognise him too.
