First half of the season the results were poor - we could not defend and we could not score. However, we did dominate play with some attractive passing football. Unfortunately, Hill could not make the changes that were needed to convert all the possession into goals. However, even in defeat, the games were better than what we had in previous years where we were under pressure all game and more often than not, still lost. Away wins were non-existent but this season we put 5 away at Birmingham.

Then second half of the season - wow. A different manager ( well almost ) a more direct approach, all of a sudden we start scoring and winning - all of a sudden we can hold out and stop the opposition scoring. Every match with the feel of a cup final, yet despite a tremendous set of results since Christmas we are still on the edge. Not a prayer of being bored - though I suppose some of us would settle for that.

An beyond the fortunes of Barnsley, what a season for the Championship. When we survive relegation we will look back on this season as a really great one in my opinion. It certainly will not be forgot quickly. Can't wait for the match tomorrow. Such a pity a few thousand stay away supporters dont feel the same and turn up for the last few matches.

First time in years that I don't want the season to end. Really enjoying it. If we stay up we go into next season full of confidence, first time for that too.

Also - since when have we done better in the second half of the season than we did in the first?

second and third that. can you imagine the excitement among the fans...surivival, flicker on a 3yr deal, and everything to look forward to!?! i don't think i've felt this positive since the PL promotion year. fact is, had the season started on jan 3rd, we'd all be feverishly talking about a top 6 spot and the impossible dream!!!

the man is an absolute magician.

You're not wrong about what a season it's been for the Championship! It's realistic to say that only the top 8 teams can assume they're safe. Not beyond imagination to suggest that 9th downwards are still in the fight. Absolutely bloody crackers.

I can't see the board going for that. I think they'll stick with their usual 12 month rolling contract.

And you can see the method in doing so. You only have to look back at this board in November of 2011. There were similar calls for Keith to be tied down to a 3, 4 or 5 year deal. Imagine that.

I'm comfortable with the rolling contract.

I can't honestly say I enjoyed the football we played in the first half of the season. It was very frustrating to watch; the ball went back and forth across the defence and then we lost possession. Our opponents were just waiting for any attack to fizzle out and then were applying 10 minutes of pressure on us as we couldn't get the ball clear.

The 2nd half has been a vat improvement, mainly because we've got our more influential players on the ball sooner. We've attacked with more confidence and purpose and not mucked about in the corners looking to make inroads into the box, we've just gone ahead and done it.

Whilst I agree with you, the irony is that we are STILL in a situation where the bleating Blades, and their dissatisfied fans, plus Donny, could possibly replace us in the Championship. That would be a nightmare. We have to cheer these lads onto a couple more wins to make sure we are still in this league. After the fantastic effort, it would be unthinkable to fall short now. I really hope that there are no distractions from the fantastic effort the players have made since Christmas.

    COYR!

The season was just a formality at Christmas as far as I was concerned we were down and just going through the motions.
The new year was about pride and putting up a show or so I thought , never in my wildest dreams would I have thought we would be in the position we now find ourselves in.
Flitcrofts attitude and desire should be the most basic requirement for any football club its what football fans want and deserve. Unfortunately David Flitcrofts are far and few between but luckily we have accidentally discovered him and to be here now knowing that if we win these two home games we are all but guaranteed our championship status, if we had been wolves or Blackburn the media would be had an orgasm at his achievements

I will become a Morgan worshipping Blunts supporter, if he isn't our manager in August......

I'm that confident. No matter the division. Only an idiot would appoint someone else....

Yeh but Hill's team with Vaz Te, Butterfield and Drinkwater was the best footballing side we had seen in years.

Let's face it, this team is a good one, and give absolutely everything, but that team had the X factor.

Flicker is 10x the manager that Keef is

    I totally agree mate.

But my point remains - we shouldn't go tying ourselves to a manager long term. Because our board are more than capable of pulling the rug from under the manager at any point.

Oh no, I am agreeing with you, I was just was pointing out why the clamour for a long term contract for Hill was so loud. That team that he built was looking something special and had it ripped apart in a few short weeks (and never got over it).

It's ok. It's that rare that someone agrees with me that I don't even notice it. ;)
