Some MP completly ignoring the fact that we pay the highest fuel duty. Whenever it is brought up he just says that that isn't the problem, the problem is that the whole world is demanding more oil than is being produced.

    Whens the next election?

I don't understand why demand has gone up so quickly in last few months?

Plus we have enough gas in north sea to supply British consumption for another hundred years, but we export it.

I just don't understand the argument that the whole world is in the same boat when by their own admission we are charged more fuel duty than anyone else.

I have sympathy for the truckers too who are complaining that foreign truckers can buy fuel cheaper abroad, come to england with tanks twice as big as ours and drive around saving around £400 on each full lorry. Isn't the solution simple though? Charge all foreign truckers duty on whatever fuel they have in their tanks on entering the country.
And why do they have bigger tanks than ours anyway? Is there a specific reason?

You cannot charge the foreign drivers a charge that is not charged to our own drivers! We are part of the EU and it is against EC law!

Ditch the EU and we might have a chance.

Could they not charge everybody a duty on fuel brought (imported) into the country regardless of whether they are british or foreign though?

I'm not exactly up on the law.

OK, so you vote Labour out. Right, fair enough. Who do you vote in? If/when labour lose the next election, who is the only part likely to get elected? The Conservatives. Do you honestly believe things will not get worse under them?

The MP is right to a certain extent.

If Oil was $10 a barrel rather than $140 then fuel would be much more affordable. The current tax onfuel makes it very hard on the old wallet with todays crude oil prices.

He isn't right at all though

because he wasn't asked about the price of crude oil. He was asked why is taxation higher in britain than the rest of the world.

If he answered that 7x3=21 he would have given a correct statment but still not answered the question that he was asked.

I don't understand why the media are so easy on politicians. They ask a valid question, get fobbed off and accept it.

The figures that they gave on sky news at lunchtime had france at around 10p per litre less than here. I assume that was diesal.

if we cut duty oil companies would probably see it as an opportunity to wack the price up and replace the cut.

    It's a problem, I'll give you that much ...............

.... I've been a 'Labour' man all my life, as was my dad, grandad etc. and my dad would turn in his grave if he thought any of his family would vote the tories in, but I'm at the end of my tether with this shambolic lot in charge.

I'm now getting ripped off for fuel, beer, fags, gas, electric, council tax, water rates, mortgage, car and house insurance, TV licence, food, in fact everything I touch.

I probably can't blame all of that on the present Government but I know one thing for sure, my pay increases go nowhere near meeting the increases in all thses things. So much for 'New Labour'. This country has well and truly gone down the toilet /poo

I don't disagree with what your saying, I am just sure that whever problems we have now, they will be worse under a proper tory government (that than the pretend tories we have in now).

He isnt even right on that

There is currently no fuel shortage even for crude

The price has been driven high by fears of possible shortages in the future and people speculating on the oil price

the question regarding duty is a valid one though - we pay the highest fuel taxes in the world - even though we are still a producer
so the government also gets a nice tax on oil extracted as well

The high cost of fuel is penalising our industry -

The question he didnt answer is a very good one

True, but the most direct roads to anywhere in france for example are toll roads, believe me, the road tax is far better than trying to drive miles around those things. Very expensive in france, Spain is alot cheaper but still have tolls along most main routes, you can avoid them but the time saved means they are worthwhile. Everyday I pay 6e to get to work & back, e30 per week = £23, my car tax in the uk is £210 = £4.04 per week but no tolls.

    I agree, so

Why not start a campaign to get Reds fans to vote for the Lib Dems? I'm sure they won't be significantly better than any of the others, but personally I couldn't possibly bring myself to vote for the Tories.
