Coal industry was strike prone, the workers, following like sheep, were led by a clown, whose only interest was his own benefits from a job he had been elected for life. Don't blame Thatcher for the demise, look inwardly. In point of fact the Greens would have closed the industry if your favoured political party had been in power.
Tories set the trap - they'd prepared for the strike months possibly years in advance. They went against the agreed closure procedure knowing Arthur would take the bait
I don't think that's totally fair, more like self-interest first, bringing down the government second, miners third. And the Tories didn't close all the pits, Labour closed hundreds in the 60s and 70s as well.
The two people who not only destroyed the miners but the whole country and Barnsley gates, were both who had big egos and were full of their own importance. We have still not moved on, and there are others who have now filled their places and are still stuffing us
You need to understand the bitch Thatchers political agenda at the time. The bitch was out to destroy what she saw as the Unions political power at the time. Morons elected the bitch on that agenda at that time. Destroy the Unions, let shareholders power to take huge profits return. It was at that time that The Bitch thought "Lets make the battleground be the miners". Labour heartland. Wont cost us any votes if their economy goes tits up. Get the police to do our dirty work. Arthur Scargill was there as a Daily Mail scapegoat. Perfect! The rest is history. Thatcher used her power to destroy our economy and she was delighted. The daft buggers in Notts etc thought they were being smart by scabbing and picking up wages thinking Thatcher would look after them later. Sorry you were shafted.I could go on and on for ever on this but you can see where I am coming from. The thought of The Bitch getting a State Funeral makes me wretch.
he made sure all his members were well looked after during the strike............. didnt he invite some of them to that big bungalow he bought that used to belong to ronnie dukes and ricky lee with his strike pay ?, well those who'd still got an address because the poor sods had 'nt been evicted
what self interest? another tory rant. the proof is in the pudding anybody with an ounce of sense knows what that strike was about. it was about the tories destroying close knit communities for exploitation (tory mission accomplished) arthurs concerns were honourable and he knew if we lost this is what would happen to our communities and the tories relished it.
dont forget the payrises that the labour goverment were "awarding" to non striking union labour i.e. police docters, nurses, armed forces, under 5% i believe, i got 50p a day extra northern ireland pay (taxable) and lost £100+ a week in living overseas allowance ( i was stationed in germany and went on a 4 month op banner tour to belfast) the conservatives gave us something like 17.9%, labour party = no union, no bothered. it aint bad when his own union is taking him to court over his wages and expenses, it was 2 people butting heads to show who was boss and the only losers was the working man
the mines labour closed were struggling to recruit staff as the employment status was blooming at that time, and the miners were transfered to other mines if they wanted to stay in the industry. and as for the self interest you know naff all.
Well said Marlon. I think our earlier nonsense arguments about who I am are irrelevant. We know what that bitch was up to.
course we did, we had caviar for breakfast everyday during that strike, free holidays in 4star hotels it was heaven, its a good job you only tell the truth and we can all trust you.
like 90% of the people on here, dont let the truth get in the way of an opinion, i saw many a good mate go under because of the pair of em, i dont think people let alone communities recovered
