Hasn't got a clue. Taking the **** out of us and Donny for poor attendances, what's the population of Sheffield? Over half a million, What's the population of Barnsley? 73000. Its just maths you moron. An attendance of 10000 at Oakwell based on the population of the town is quite impressive if you ask me.
He's a scrotum, All you ever here about is his non-league management experiences and how his team talks are incredible. Hasn't any idea about football. Mind you not many callers to P or G have anything between their ears. Makes me ashamed to be a Sheffielder at times.
They are actually better supported than ourselves when you compare population to attendance. Sheff 555,500 split into two for the sake of two teams 277,750 Barnsley's population is 225,200 according to barnsley.gov.uk (2008) l believe the Sheffield figure is for the borough so you have to use the same for our own figure. Sheff Weds = 6.7% of the population attend matches Sheff Utd = 6.6% Barnsley = 4.5% But he is talking ****** because 1,800 & 2,000 travelling red striped pigs have hardly made a difference to the attendances at Oakwell recently. Its full when the blue pigs come to town. His teams that poor at the moment its the only thing he's got left to go on. Whitey will sort him tonight.
Yer right Gordon......we have poor attendances ........and like you have pointed out its nothing to do with population..........it is however to do with football history And while ever Barnsley considers themselves a small Championship club, then thats indeed what we will remain as Ask the fans at Leeds and the Sheffield clubs how they view their club and they will all say 'Premeirship' Why?...because of their football history..........and thats why we get football fans from Barnsley traveling to those cities to watch football They are still doing this even though Sheffield is a league below...........Why?........because of their football history Barnsley as a football club needs to wake up to the fact that they can compete with these clubs if they start to see themselves a bit differently
Hold on a minute, Sheffield is a far more concentrated centre of population, if you look at the map of metropolitan boroughs, you'll see that Barnsley and Sheffield are the same size, (Rotherham being slightly smaller and Donny bigger). People in the outlying areas of the Barnsley borough are just as likely to support another team - I know this because where I grew up (Bolton on Dearne) most of my mates were Wednesday or Rotherham fans - not many Donny or Blunts though. I guess its purely a historical thing, the two Sheffield clubs over the years have played at a higher level than us and as such have attracted larger followings, most sons get taken to see football by their dads so it gets passed on to the next generation and so on. I can remember the early 70s when attendances fell to 2,000 when we were bottom of the 4th division - till Clarkie came along and we were getting 10,000+ again.
The best support compared with the population of the town is actually Yeovil supposingly, something like 40% of the population goes to the matches or something daft like that.
