Oakwell stadium is used for about a mere 100 HOURS a year for football. Unused throughout the summer months.

Are there no other events which could be staged there to raise some revenue for the club?

    RE: spot on

I guess insurances, security etc are costly items and a major consideration but an excellent stadium like Oakwell does have potential.

    RE: spot on

They did in the early days when big bands wanted to be the first to perform there. Concerts like REM, Eagles etc were jam packed. As was my first ever concert which was Beautiful South, Lightning Seeds and Cast there. They will have lost money when Bryan Adams went back for a 2nd time, Elton John and the stupid pop concert with Girls Aloud and Blue.

Elton John & Ronan Keating at the Keepmoat

a tiny venue like that but used to its full potential. We did use ours for a monster truck event didn't we?

Always said the Metrodome could be used better as well, look at the bands that the Dome get in. Barnsley is stuck in the dark ages when it comes to marketing the town.

The only problem i can see is

It could affect the pitch, look at Rotherham with the don Valley stadium after that U2 concert. They'd have to take on much more staff to cope with these extra events, as well as trying to keep the pitch in good condition. Personlly i think the extra costs would outweigh the extra revenue.

One thing that I'm not sure Oakwell has.....

I believe you need to have a special license to have gigs and other things other than football, venued at Oakwell.... My mate here at uni is a Leicester fan, and he says thats where they went wrong 'Because Leicester could make loads from that'

they do wedding receptions, meetings quite a few things.
have a look on the official site.
but i see what you are saying there could be a few different things they could offer.

maybe open the five a side to public use, with a charge to play on like vida ect.

We've rented out the indoor pitch before.

I think he's meaning the actual stadium for concerts etc rather than the Exec facilties.

not sure what access would be like for the trucks to get into oakwell, access maybe a problem. Weight loading of the pitch and undersoil heating is another potential. Along with the safety certificate, if standing was to be used for a concert there would need to be developments for access/egress..........and also theres not that many bands/groups tour that would need a venue with a capacity like oakwell.
