It is thought maths teacher and rugby coach Scott Williams may have climbed into the large bin and fallen asleep at the end of an evening out in Brighton. Tragically the popular 35-year-old sportsman, who had been to several pubs with a friend, was still in the bin when it was collected. It is thought he was killed by machinery inside the bin lorry after it scooped up the communal wheelie bin and emptied it into the crusher. His body was discovered by workers at a waste recycling centre in nearby Newhaven on Monday morning, soon after the lorry had emptied its load. The New Zealander, who lived and taught in London, was last seen at around 1am on Sunday and was reported missing by pals at 8am on Monday - an hour after his body was found. Last night, as police probed the mystery of just how Mr Williams came to be in the bin, friends and colleagues paid tribute to a 'fantastic' teacher. Former colleague Jacqueline Glazerman, who worked with him at Harrow High and Sports College until 2006, said Mr Williams had been an inspiration to children in his role as a maths and physical education teacher. 'Scott was a lovely man and a fantastic teacher,' she said. 'I used to work with him and it's a real shock to here of how he died. 'It really is terrible. He was a really nice guy and was easy to get on with and was great with the kids. 'He will be sadly missed.' A skip lorry arrives at the waste site where Scott Williams' body was found. His corpse was discovered yesterday morning - 30 hours after he was last seen Hairdresser Donna Kearvell, 31, grew up with the teacher in Hamilton, New Zealand and arrived in the UK at around the same time as him in 1999. She said: 'It's terrible what has happened to Scott. He was really popular. 'I've known him from when I was around 17 or 18 and I travelled with him with a group of people around Europe in 2000. Everyone in that group will be absolutely devastated to hear about this.' She said he had gone by the nickname Scooter. 'He was just really fun-loving, a big, fun guy,' she said. 'He was a really good swimmer and I remember hearing a story that he went to the beach and there was a swimming competition and he just entered and won it. 'He then just got out of the ocean, didn't wait for any prize giving and went down to the bar with his mates.' Another friend, who did not want to be named said the sportsman was a 'typical rugby-playing type of bloke'. 'He was great fun and loved a drink or two, but this is so tragic I can't quite believe it. 'I just don't know what must have been going through his head to have got into a wheelie bin after a night out.' A police car leaves the Sussex Waste Recycling site in Newhaven Today detectives from Sussex Police were still investigating how Mr Williams came to be in the dustcart, which contained rubbish collected from wheelie bins around Brighton. He had been out with a friend in the city on Saturday night and was seen in various pubs until the early hours. A spokeswoman said: 'It is assumed that Scott, who had been out with a friend and was seen in public houses in the city until 1am on Sunday, had been in one of the wheelie bins. 'Police are investigating how he came to be there and are treating his death as unexplained rather than suspicious.' Workers at Sussex Waster Recycling were stunned when they found the body. One, who did not want to be named, said: 'It is truly horrendous. Such a horrible way to go. 'One minute you are having a nice time out with pals and whatever happened it looks like he decided to go for a lie down in a skip at some point. 'And then he was picked up and crushed to death. It's unthinkable really.' Mr Williams had been in a communal wheelie bin when he was scooped up. Brighton and Hove City Council introduced the 5ft high, 4.5ft wide and 4ft deep bins in 2004, but in January this year they rolled out hundreds more to cater for an extra 500 streets. The giant black wheelie bins have come in for criticism recently after it was revealed that two homeless men almost suffered the same fate after being picked up by bin lorries in Brighton. Both men, who had fallen asleep in the bins, escaped death at the last minute earlier this year by shouting out to binmen. In May a collection truck, crewed by one driver, pulled up alongside the bin and used the CCTV system in its cab to line it up and engage its automatic emptying mechanism. The bin was hoisted above the vehicle and was about to be emptied into the compactor when the driver heard terrified shouts from a man inside. An in February, a shop bin containing a homeless man was pulled 30 yards down the road and tipped into a dustcart before the driver realised there was a person inside. Does 1am Sunday mean 1am monday morning? Or 1am Sunday morning (ie saturday night), if its 1am monday morning then isnt it odd to report someone as missing just 7 hours after a night on the town? He could have pulled or something. If its 1am Sunday morning then isn't that an awfully long time to have been asleep?

It says his body was found at around 7am Monday morning when the lorry was emptied at the depot. We're lucky to get our bin emptied by 3pm and theirs is back at the depot being emptied at 7am. Whats that all about?
