Just looking through the list for Sports Personality and I genuinely don't know who's most deserving. Jess Ennis-Hill, Farrah, Froome, Rutherford? They're probably the major achievers on a truly global stage with an added backstory of against all odds. I'm a sucker for that. Then Lizzie Armistead has been amazing this year, and Adam Peatty is a superstar in the making. Whitlock first ever men's gymnastic world gold medallist. Personally I love Kevin Sinfield and he's an absolute credit to his sport, although not so sure about being awarded it for years of dedication over an actual in year achievement (see the travesty of Ryan Giggs winning). I don't think it should be Hamilton or Murray, not for a second because their achievements haven't been awesome, but because they've probably had even better years before. And as impressive as beating an ageing Klitcshko may have been I don't think Fury's achievement compares. I reckon I'll probably go Jess, given multi-event athletics is about as good as it gets for all-round sporting prowess. And she'd just had a baby. And is from Yorkshire. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/sports-personality/34845334
Every respect for your thoughtful breakdown. However, despite who deservies it - from a popularity point of view - for it is a popularity competition rather than a competition about sporting acheivement - can you honestly see it getting away from Murray? Due to the imediacy of the Heavyweight bought there's or at an outside chance for Fury given that there's a potntial for a massive combined Manchester United / Irish vote and F1 has this bizarrely enermous group of people addicted to watching the procession of fancy cars in single file so I wouldn't spill my pint if Hamilton won it However the ecency of the Davis Cup win and all the ladies loving Andy I wouldn't bet against him taking the title. And I'd never vote for a Dee Dah either.
Kevin Sinfield, but he's no chance, he doesn't even play Rugby Union (yet). Not even mentioned in the ops post
