As I don't drive, I rarely get to see the old places we used to go as family when I was a lad. I'm thinking of doing a few local landscapes and would interested in hearing a few suggestions. Post pictures if you have some, thanks. :D

I'm possibly open to commissions too, if there is something anyone would like done.

Not sure if they are in Barnsley, or just outside, but I like the view from the top of the old Cortonwood pit stack - either across the Dearne Valley towards Darfield/Goldthorpe or up the valley towards Elsecar.

I also like the view over Barnsley from the road between Great Houghton and Hemsworth - over the top of ASOS towards Darfield with Town in the distance.

And one that definitely isn't is the Greasborough end of the Wentworth estate - on the path at the side of the pond and along towards the dam.

    I agree

Except you have got it the wrong way 'round.

The view from Birdwell or Ward Green towards the Northern College. Very impressive, and always makes me smile thinking of my wedding reception there 15 yrs ago.

Genn Lane from Rob Royd over towards Worsborough Mill.
Same view but from top of Worsborough Common (near allotments behind Locke Park)

And my new bedroom window on Park Road which you can see over Town centre from the back and Locke Park from the front. Belting.

    Re: I agree

I prefer the view from the high ground at the College, looking down over the valley. I'm somewhat envious of barnsley66 having it as a place of work.

    Royd Moor View Point

360 degree view over South/West Yorkshire and the Peak District.

Especially like the south-westerly (i think!) view overlooking the Peak District/Derwent Valley (Black Hill, Howden Edge, Cut Gate, Woodhead pass, Holme Moss etc).

Usually call and have a break at the viewpoint when heading towards Langsett/Derwent on the mountain bike. One time I got chatting to a fairly old chap who seemed to think you can see the Humber Bridge (70 odd miles away) with a pair of binoculars on a very clear day. He seemed genuine, still don't know to this day if he was bullshiting or not!

Another vote for the view of Elsecar, Hoyland and Jump from the old pit stack.
    .
Top of the old quarry, off Wakey Road, where you can see Oakwell, Harbro Hill, Tarn Hall, College, Emley Moor etc etc. The most amazing view in Tarn that I see every morning at 5am after work where I sit and contemplate life for 5 minutes. Twas breathtaking last week as the sun rose.
    .
And where we live in Clayton, is a cracking view, Paul. It's one of the highest spots in Yorkshire and would make a great painting.
I will try remember to take both a photo of that view, and of the one from the quarry.
