Following on from a discussion on a seperate thread, it would be interesting (or quite possibly dull as ****) to know what distances people travel to watch Barnsley games. How many miles do you travel to Oakwell and how often for home games? How many away games do you get to and how far do you travel? Personally I currently live about 3.5 miles from Oakwell and get to about 75% of home games. These days I get to about 5 to 10 away games per season at most. Mainly local ones. I might get to somewhere in the midlands or lancashire on an odd occasion. Further than that is very rare. To sum up - Part Time.
I live about 3 miles from Oakwell, make every home game. I would go anywhere to watch the reds. However I missed 9 games last season all of them away. Most in London or on the South Coast. Looking to lower that this year hopefully. Longest one's last year were Southampton, Cardiff and Ipswich. To sum up - go to most but not as many as I'd like to be.
Oakwell - Approximately 260 miles. Just got my ST back, so most home games barring midweek. Last season I only made approximately 12 away games, Southampton being the furthest. Always make the extra effort for the games in Lancs as they're the easiest/closest to get to until Carlisle finally get promoted! To sum up: F*cking bonkers, and definitely single!
I have to travel all the way from Dodworth (and have been doing since the 1960's), but sometimes miss Tuesday night games due to uni. I rarely make away games these days, apart from the local ones. When I was younger and didn't have any responsibilities, I never missed a game. I'm a **** fan and have no right to pass comment on anything connected with Barnsley Football Club.
I have ST and travel 40 miles to Oakwell and go to every home game, after some of the games last season the 40 miles home felt a like a long drive! I go to 90% of local derbies (Yorkshire) and the odd midlands and Lancashire away game every season. Not a die hard but when the big games come I know I'm a real fan and not a part timer
250 miles each way from the South coast. Used to be 100% of home games but I've not renewed my ST. I will probably still pay-on-the-day for plenty of next season. I usually make about 5 away games per season, particularly Brighton as it's only a few miles away.
I travel around 40 miles round trip for home games. I don't go to many away games these days due to cost mainly. I've just knocked a day off our family holiday in August to attend the first home which has gone down a storm.
240 miles. 4 hour drive to Oakwell or a 3 hour train to Donny from Waverley. Been in Scotland for 23 years. Always had a season ticket but averaged about 12 home games in recent times. But only a handful last season. Very rarely make away games. Went to the hammering at Newcastle a couple of seasons ago. Sheff Utd for the relegation party. Anfield and Wembley. Getting harder to get to games as my kids grow. Just a case of picking the games now. And there's no doubt that it's a bloody long way to go when you know the teams not good enough. But once a red always a red. And my attendance will increase if we are doing well.
27 mile round trip for home games, went to all the away games last season, so a fair amount of travel and i enjoyed every minute apart from the way back from Coventry never normally pissed off travelling home but that day i started to question my mentality, not doing half as much travelling this coming season due to having my hours cut at work and the wifes unwillingness to sell herself to raise the funds needed
you've also got a face like a welders bench, a small willy, and have been known to interfere with small woodland creatures, but i'd buy thee a drink mate.
However many miles featherstone is from barnsley Maybe 20 miles. Season ticket so every home match About 5-10 away games mostly local but usually at least one London game. I won't swap shifts for away games its enough messing about swapping for home games
220 miles return from Newcastle area. Never miss a home game, but last season some of the drives home seemed endless, especially late on a Tuesday night in the 28 mile stretch of the A1 in North Yorkshire where it was 50mph due to roadworks! Yes, i was at St James for the 6-0 and going into work on the Monday made me feel sick!
Show off I life 15 miles further away than John and hardly go at all though I have managed to see at least one game a season since I've been up here - I am the ultimate part timer
I suppose I could say 8500 miles round trip, but that's not fair on some of you, the real die-hard fans that keep the club going. Nowadays I get to about 3 games every 18 months or so. So, my "support" is approximately 50 feet from whatever room I'm in to the computer (for Barnsley Player)!
Was a sixty mile round trip. Now it's a twenty minute stroll. Or four hour piss up. Depends how you look at it.
